Stevenage stabbing
Andrew+dad - 16/7/05 at 11:43 AM

I just ondered if anyone had seen on the news about the 15 year old grl stabbed in the chest in school in stevenage yesterday

well heres what i know

it was in my school and the 2 girls were havign fight a fairly fair fight from what i gather untill the one who was at the time "loosing" pulle dout a knife and stabbed it into the other ...

because of the way the knife was stabbed it ended up 2mm away from her heart and shes was in hospital overnight

she has made a good recovery and will be allowed to go home tonight ...

no one saw it coming its not what you wouldve expected as the grl that did it was always quite quiet and kept to herself

its always a bit of a shcok when something like this happens to people who are so close to you if you understand i didnt really know either of them but both of them are friends with some of my close friends its a bit of a shock to the system and wotn do my schools reputation any good at all

gazza285 - 16/7/05 at 11:46 AM

All part of our rich and diverse culture these days.

shortie - 16/7/05 at 11:47 AM

Blimey mate, very sad to hear, glad she is ok.

You just never know I guess, you think you know someone and they then go and do something that makes you realise just how little you do know about them!

Like I said, glad she's ok and hopefully the school won't get too much bad press.

Better wear your cool gear on monday as I reckon the press hounds will be on the gates

Rich.

Scotty - 16/7/05 at 12:31 PM

i can't understand the mentality of going out armed with weapons !!!
is that the culture we now live in ???
obviously yes.
A group of blokes went to a local late night disco with a gun ! - in cornwall !!
ok, it was only a bb gun, but WTF !!!

Noodle - 16/7/05 at 12:45 PM

At sports day this week at the school in Wolves where I was teaching until recently, one chap took a replica pistol with him to strut about in front of his homeeez.

Bless him. He's just misunderstood. And 13.

Mind you, he'd done it before.

Cheers,

Neil.

Never mind curfews and ASBOs, we need to tackle the root of the problem.
Bring back national service, take telly off the air except between 6pm and 11pm ( as it used to be) bring back corporal punishment in schools and bring back hanging! ( there's no danger of hanging the wrong person with the DNA technology available today).
Teach kids some respect and give them some values and a moral code to live by.
I could sort this bloody country out by tea time! RRRAAAARRRRRRGH!
Rant over now!

theconrodkid - 16/7/05 at 02:16 PM

i think jb is right there, the rot started when the cane was banned at school, parents cant slap their kids anymore, there is no respect for anyone or the law that is now so limp it has to pick on drivers to keep the courts running.
work camps and prisons in siberia would cure half the problem, the birch or hangmans noose the rest

Andrew+dad - 16/7/05 at 02:20 PM

jon firstly corpral punishment wouldnt work lol if a teacher hit me id hit them back lol

TV who says its all down to tv ??

national service might not be bad idea

and i too dont understand why people try to act like americans but its not just tha is it its trying to look kool and all of a sudden do you have to carry a weapon to be "hard" or "kool"

i really dont get it and hell im one of the teenagers that you lot are bitching about lol

i will admit to carrying a weapon but i wasnt going to use it not even to scare them lol but i was carrying my knives back from kungfu hehe and i got jumped and oe of them pulls out a knife and says give me your wallet i said ok ok and reached into my pocklet whipped out the knives and started spinning them round and swinging them while i stood there saying if you want a knife fight lets go lol and it bloody worked they ran so fast it was funny

but thats not carrying a weapon to look kool it was carrying it home after kung fu and i do have a license for them before you ask

but the amount of times people have pulled knives on me in stevenage is unreal most of the time if you stand there and say

"if you want to stab me to look kool go ahead but if you do stab me ill just pull that blade straight out and slit your throat in "self defence" they usually walk away lol

someone has yet to call my bluff i dunno wot id do if they actually call it lol

"jon firstly corpral punishment wouldnt work lol if a teacher hit me id hit them back lol"

When we were told to go to the Heads office we truly crapped ourselves!!!

There seems to be a blind arrogance today , "I wont do this" , "You cant make me", .........

Dont keep telling us what you wont do, tell us what you are going to do that will be constructive for society as a whole.......

Someone's got to contribute ..........

I found (Andrews response a bit depressing) , BUT one of the good things about this forum is that there's a lot of young builders , which really impresses me, so they cant all be out muggin and stabbing...........

gazza285 - 16/7/05 at 02:39 PM

Indeed.

Andrew+dad - 16/7/05 at 02:45 PM

i dont see what you can find depressing about it ...

to me it seems tat "back in the day" as my grandparents would say there was this whole ruling by fear approach in schools which is why corpral punishment worked

but why is ruling by fear the right way to go sureley it is better for pupils and teachers to teach in an atmosphere of mutual respect which is what my classes are like 90% of the time and infact the teachers that are seen as fairly innefectual are the ones that dont try to treat us like people but try to treat us like their underlings ...

an atmosphere of mutual respect is a much better learning environment then when a teacher tries to make you fear them ..

i have been at two different secondary schools the first was a very strict catholic school which had a zero tolerance policy on pretty much everything even to the extremes of regulation haircuts ... and school days for me and my friends became more a test of just how far you can bend the rules and not get caught out rather then trying to learn and since the head is just getting stricter and stricter the exam results are getting worse and to combat this he makes the school stricter hmm MORON imho

he goes as far as calling the entire school 1500 + probably more like 17-1800 pupils into the hall packed so tightly there is only standing space and gives them all a good shouting at for about an hour last time he did it 6 people fainted and he just carried on ...

the new school i am at is a bit more lax and because there are less rules and they are not inforced to such an extremist extent people do not spend their time trying ot break them and as a whole the pupils have a lot more respect for the teachers ...

ok theres always a few people wo will let it down but you cannot forsee things like what happened yesterday and its down to the individual not neccasarily the environment they are in.

Dale - 16/7/05 at 04:08 PM

"sureley it is better for pupils and teachers to teach in an atmosphere of mutual respect " When this is the consideration of students in school now where no one has respect for anyone or anything when its cool to stab someone trash someones property or threaten someone with a knife or gun. Someone threatens you with a knife they should be thrown in adult jail with no ky jelly. Threatend with a gun - real or not hang the f#@$kers. Back when I was in high school in the early 80s (small town still) I recall one incedent of a knife in school- on kid stabed someon with a poket knife- kid was not considered cool for this by students or staff or the police- who promptly hauled his ass out of the school and was expelled. I did not hear of another incedent there during my 5 years there.
Untill you show respect for others - you deserve non yourself. It is earned not a given.

Well what can I say?
If corporal punishment, hanging, national service, tougher laws and the right to beat the living crap out of our kids ( sorry I mean discipline our kids) and other people's kids when they step out of line, is not the answer then please, someone, tell me what is. Because the system we have at present ain't working and it's going to get worse.

We disconnected our TV two years ago. I still don't miss it. It's all sensationalized crap, superfical nonsense, and shallow "reality." Who needs it? Plus I have several more hours a day to do other stuff. Ever since disconnecting it I'm far more productive.

If that's not reason enough for corporal punishment then why bother going on!
Why would you carry knives in the first place, even if you do have a "licence" (?) for them? What if one of the other lads decided to take you on?
I think your whole attitude stinks and shows little respect for anyone, least of all yourself.
I went to two different boarding schools where I was subjected to corporal punishment and I can honestly say I benefited from it and so did thousands of other people of that era. I learnt manners, respect, social skills and how to read and write the Queens English; something else that evades you.
You're attitude towards your schooling is disgraceful; why not take on the lessons that are being offered you instead of trying to disrupt the process?
I had hoped you were having a wind up, but it appears not as you exhibit no morality nor embarrasment in what you say.
I would be ashamed to be related to someone like that.

Jonbeedle for Prime Minister I say....

i too was subjected to corporal punishment at school, on one occasion made the mistake of challenging the legality of it. (it had just been outlawed in state schools) After 6 thrashes with the cane I was asked to leave the room then come back in again.... for another 6 lashes! I never challenged it again.

There were fights at school of course, but if it got out of control the headmaster issued boxing gloves to the combatants and they sorted it out in a controled manner. No knives were ever carried nor used.

Ahhh..... truly the happiest days of my life.

John

YEEEHAWWW!
If there are so many people with the same opinion (mine) and I expect It's the majority of British people, then why are we letting 600 politicians and those Europrats in Brussels overule the other 60 million of us?
There are a handful of politically correct do gooders who constantly screw things up for the rest of us just because we sit back and let them. This is why people who defend their homes go to jail and the perpetrators of the misery are allowed to sue for compensation. This is also why yobs on the street get away with unacceptable behaviour, because it's not right to discipline them because they're misunderstood. Cobblers!
It's time to stand up for what you believe in. Stand up and be counted. " Vive la revolution!"

ferral youths are my bugbear. they seem to have lost their fear of authority.
and what is frightening is that its happened in the last 12-15 years when i was in primary school we were all sh£t scarred of the teachers and the police. this is not the case now and i'm not sure why.
there is a shortcut through my garden which cuts about 150 yards. kids just walkthrough like its their right this started hapening in the last 5 years if you shout they just ignore you and carry on walking.gate installed now

to go back to something mentioned earlier ex soldier beats up kid. If a kid was outside my house jumping on my car what does he expect to happen? what would happen if he did it to his fathers car? He can't have been surprised by the guys reaction. Not saying its right to beat up a kid for jumping on a car but if i caught someone burgling my house they would get a hiding and driven to the mountains in the middle of the night and left there.

you dont appear to have read my post ...

as i said i was carrying the Knives home from Kung Fu

seven star praying mantis kung fu to be precise as i use them in my lessons ...

also what i was saying was at a school where the teachers are trying to be so strict that it becomes a joke then the majority of youths includiny myself will see it as a challenge to see how far we can push it .. BUT at the school i am at at the moment where the teachers speak to us and treat us with some respect not as an inferior human being then we learn alot more and there is alot less disruption of lessons due to bad behavior ...

i was trying to show that when students are treated with a bit of respect we in turn show more respect for the teachers ..

and with the issue of knives i dont know what i would have done if they had called my bluff because that is not something you have to think about BECAUSE they will never call your bluff you average chav is a coward who carries a weapon to give them an inherrant advantage but if you happen to have one like i did because i was on my way home fom my kung fu lesson .. then you put yourself back on a level playing feild in their eyes and they get scared ..

an idea like this would work a way for people to sort out disputes in a controlled manor ... this may sound stupid to you but if more people took up a martial art or some kind of fighting discipline such as boxing kick boxing etc then there would be alot less violence because these kind of fighting disciplines are a way or releasing pent up agression in a controlled way. you learn control over your body and also discipline .

I did read your post which is why I responded. I reiterate; why would you be carrying those knives (to or from anywhere - it doesn't matter). What possible use can you have for these knives and why would you need lessons in how to use them?

Andrew+dad - 17/7/05 at 03:04 PM

i was carrying them home because i needed them for my lesson we learn how to use them purely because it is part of the martial art and i go to the lessons because it is a good way to releive stress and it builds discipline ......

have you never done a martial art these knives are to seven star praying mantis kung fu what boxing gloves are to boxing

would you be so critical if i had said i was carrying boxing gloves ??

Andrew+dad - 17/7/05 at 03:11 PM

blunt but still knives these are what i was carrying back from my kun fu lesson

Peteff - 17/7/05 at 03:33 PM

Not if you said you slept in them . At least boxing gloves are there to lessen the damage, not cause more. I used to go to Judo classes many years ago and it was more as a way of keeping fit and flexible than learning to maim people. Till these youths learn discipline they will never be able to integrate into normal society. If your parents shout at you do you shout back or if asked to do something do you ask why? These are things I see children doing now and if I'd done them I would have had a sore earhole for my trouble.

Andrew+dad - 17/7/05 at 03:41 PM

that is precisely what i go to kung for for another way of keeping fit on top of my rugby and weight training ... its not about learning to maim people and alot of the training we do is about learning how to dissarm someone who has a knife but to know how best to stop a knife attack without injury you must first learn how to attack with a knife to know your opponent.

as for if i get shouted at do i shout back it all depends on the circumstances

if i have done something wrog and my parents shout at me for it then i wont shout back and will do what im being asked to do

if its my dad shouting at me for no apparent reason when i was not the one at fault and he has no way of prooving i was when i know i wasnt then yes i will shout back ...

as for when im asked to do something no i dont ask why i usually do it ...

of course sometimes we all get a bit pissed off and will just shout back because were annoyed but so would you have done ...

jonbeedle - 17/7/05 at 05:01 PM

I studied Karate up to black belt. Karate is Japanese for 'Empty Hands' i.e no weapons.
It is a discipline which involves the harmonisation of mind body and spirit, it has nothing to do with fighting. It can be used to defend oneself but it is primarily for overall self improvement.
We circuit trained for physical fitness, we sparred to show spirit and respect to one another, performed Kata to discipline our minds and meditated to calm ourselves, relieve stress and to reflect on our being.

We were taught that if threatened in the street then we should run like buggery. Anyone caught using their martial art unnecessarily would be banned from the club and would also face criminal charges. Only in EXTREME circumstances were you permitted to use your martial art in self defense or defense of others.
Just thought I mention this.
Cheers
Jon.

I think we all fully understand why you were carying them (on your way home from your knife lessons!), but what I can't comprehend is why you would want knife fighting lessons in the first instance. Claiming you need to know how to defend yourself in the event you're attacked by other knife-wielding thugs is disturbing and a pathetic cop-out.
I'm not going to waste any more of my time talking to an anarchic hooligan.

Noodle - 18/7/05 at 08:56 AM

Take sprinting lessons.

Learn to run away from knife-wielding chavs!

Various knock-on health benefits too.

Neil.

Seriously, it's a socially-downward spiral to arm against attack. Bad guys will up the ante with guns/acid/gound to ground rocket propelled grenades/whatever, then eveyone else will too.

NS Dev - 18/7/05 at 09:59 AM

Everything is about responsibility.

Take that responsibility away from people and they gradually become out of control.

Anybody can carry a knife responsibly. Yes I would question why one would need to but it can be done. When I used to work at the farm a knife in the pocket was just a tool for the job.

The more people are told that they CAN'T do something, the more they will want to do it to prove something.

To change tack, it is the same with "speeding". Speed appropriate to the conditions can be viewed as responsible, but when blanket limits are enforced to ridiculous levels, without regard for what those limits are trying to achieve, then problems will occur.

The comparisons with the USA I "PERSONALLY" feel are valid. It would seem that nobody is responsible for anything that goes wrong there, they can always sue somebody else and pass the buck..........well sod that, we should own up to our fcuk ups and carry the can for them.

Anyway, rant over, see y'all l8r

Monkey Man - 18/7/05 at 02:01 PM

I can't believe how people have responded to Andrew here. As he quite correctly pointed out respect breeds respect while violence breeds violence.

He while being repeatedly insulted and blamed for all the perceived problems of the 'younger generation' has responded politely and has shown more respect to other posters here than anyone here has shown him.

He is the one setting the good example which you should follow.

You hear of one fight in a country of sixty million people and then take out all of your anger and frustration on some poor kid who had nothing to do with it.

quote:

an atmosphere of mutual respect is a much better learning environment then when a teacher tries to make you fear them ..

You hooligan Andrew. You're just trying to start a fight!

People are the same as always we just hear about more of the nasty stuff on the news.

Sorry if I come across as a little peeved. I'm just astonished that people are complaining about a violent society given that the solutions offered are all violent and uncivilised. That doesn't strike you as a bit odd?

Where are the figures that show society is getting more violent? In what way since when? Or are you basing it all on what you hear on the news? You don't hear a word about all the people the police catch and convict do you?

He while being repeatedly insulted and blamed for all the perceived problems of the 'younger generation' has responded politely and has shown more respect to other posters here than anyone here has shown him.

He is the one setting the good example which you should follow.

Agree with you 100%- I'm shocked by how Andrew has been spoken to.

The media are fantastic at portraying an increase in violence etc. but they love to sensationalise issues as it sells more. I have not seen any independent figures that say that violence is particularly on the increase.

And saying that cutting hands off and the like stops theft- rubbish! They'd have only had to do it once if that was the case and those sorts of punishments still go on now. They still do public beheading in Saudi why do they have to do that more once if it acted as a deterrent.

As for training using knives- why on earth not. Criminals are going to carry them anyway so you might aswell train law abiding people. It's not the weapon that commits the crime it's the person holding it.

Cheers,
James

Beheading criminals more than once? Surely the lesson's been learned after the first time?

Neil.

a person willing to use a knife would surely be willing to use any implement wether it be a glass, beer bottle or baseball bat i think alot of kids carry them "incase" whatever that means...and would never use them even if provoked...but a small minority use them at the drop of a hat and were not talking swiss army knifes that fold very easily, a couple of years ago i bought 2 knives and both were very vicious looking and both cheap one with a 2" blade was £2.25 and the 3" blade one was £1.50 both lock knives easily available from one of those buy any old tat type of shops, and i don't think the shopkeepers cared who they sold em to because they were at the front by the tills and at a low level(maybe for the gurhkas),
you've got to be quite cold to sink a knife into somebody, but don't most knife attacks occur in the home ...kitchen knifes at that... angry pre menstrual women allegedly

the way things are going in a few years school kids will be going around with shooters, then the other kids think well you don't take a knife to a gunfight and thus the snowball effect will sweep thru most cities like wildfire

thank you to monkey man and james for seeing my point and defending me i am not an anarchic holligan as i have been reffered to as .... honestly where did that come from.

i dont see you peoples reason for criticising me what is in your opinions wrong with learning how to defend yourself in a knife fight ??

why just learn to kick a knife out of someones hand why not go on to learn how to pick it up and do some really funky spinny stuff with it to scare the willies out of your would be attacker ???

i was not saying

i carried my kung fu knives with me the other night when i went out on the wee because i wanted someone to start on me so i could stab them WAS I

if i had bene i could have been able to understand your unfair comments and attacks on my person.

Ok guys I reckon that's enough on this subject.
It's ok to have a difference of opinion, it's what makes the world an interesting place. It's also good to have a healthy discussion and to appreciate each others views. Everyone has a personal view to express and that should be respected, but under no circumstances should it become personal. So before it does, let us all declare the subject closed for now and get on with talking about cars and related trivia and helping each other the way we have done so in the past.
Peace, brothers I love you all!

jonbeedle - 18/7/05 at 09:31 PM
