Peugeot head gasket

Hi Chaps

Anyone have any hints or tips on replacing the head gasket on a 1994 Peugeot 1.9 Diesel non-turbo?

I've read the Haynes manual and the proceedure seems very involved to say the least

I've had a quote of around £400-£450 for a proper job done by a good local garage but thought about doing it myself if I can find the time and inclination.

Thanks for any advice.

Cheers

Mark

As Conrod says use 2 x 8mm bolts through pump sprocket and 1x 8mm bolt to lock cam , tool for locking crank is a piece of approx 8mm rod bent to shape . goes through block into flywheel just behind starter motor , fiddly to get in but possible without removing starter. Not half as bad to do as you may think

and check the head for corrosion/cracks warping etc
