just got my new amp and a set of nice speakers, trying to figure out what i can hook up to it without blowing anything up!

if there's anyone on here into it then make yourself known and i'll throw some questions up.

I've got a full blown stacking system, amp, cd, radio, etc etc etc. Very large floor standing speakers, its not particularly difficult to set up.

Whats the questions?

Yeahs. Post the questions up matey. Amps are pretty hard to blow if your connecting using audio leads.

ok so now i know i'm not wasting keyboard life here goes.......

just bought a sony amp and some eltax symphony floor standing speakers

on this amp i've got inputs for

phono

tuner

cd

aux

tape2/md

tape1/dat

basicly i have no cd as all my music is stored on my pc so i have that wired through the aux input.

my tv has a audio output as does my ps2......is there anyway i can hook them up to this amp so i have proper sound for everything?

As far as i'm aware you can plug the red and white audio plugs into any of those. Jusrt cos it says CD on it, doesn't mean it has to be CD. The only one i'm unsure about is phono. My Amp is full up now, has all those connections

i seem to remember someone telling me in the past to never plug anything other than a turntable into a phono or it'll go pop. thus i wasn't sure how the rest of them work out.

Dont plug anything that has a line out into the phono, they are only for record decks. They have an extra amplifier to amplify the weak signal from the deck.

But you can plug anything with an audio out into any of the other inputs quite safely.

I'm fortunate enough to have a Sony ES3000 setup. All battleship class. That and some elderly Mission speakers which I really like :-)
Although live sound is more my type of thing.

Saw this thread a little late... but I'm into home hifi too. Rega Speakers, Denon amp, rotel cd NAD tuner Nakamichi tape deck (retired rotel turntable, retired Mission Cyrus II Amp, blownup AR reference speakers)

So - yes...

I did the same thing connecting PC to system but sound quality is poor so dismantled it. MP3's (even at 256Kbps) is second best - don't even go to ipod's wma as that is worse.

anyway, its not quantity, its quality.

I'm into Naim Audio gear, good British HiFi, made in Salisbury. List is:- CD3.5, NAP150x Power Amp, NAC112x Pre Amp, Intro speakers, Flatcap2x power supply (for CD player & preamp) and a Stageline for my NAD533 turnatable. All powered via a dedicated mains spur.
Also hooked up to a Yamaha 5.1 processor and Sony DVP-S725 DVD player (old but good).

Sounds good to me, not sure about the neighbours though

Can't afford anything!! All spent on bloody cars!

Connect it all up via optic and coax leads dude, and for your video leads use s-video. If you have to use phono leads, go gold, interference is the biggest killer of quality!!
