scotty g - 15/11/05 at 05:54 PM

Come on chaps, just about all of you are familiar with the Sierra.
My keys are locked in the boot, whats the best way to get at them without breaking the lock?

Mr G - 15/11/05 at 06:03 PM

Sierra or Saff?

Mk1 or 2?

scotty g - 15/11/05 at 06:06 PM

Its a Sierra hatch MK2, i would fold the seats down only they're in the car and its locked!
Keep em coming guys.

I take it you dont want to smash the window ?

You'll have to slid a small hook type down the window and yank the metal cable/bar inside the door. IF you get my meaning.

Or i'll pop over and rip the door off with my 4x4

Ketchup - 15/11/05 at 06:20 PM

you can gently slide a small plastic/wood wedge into the top corner of the door between door/roof, this should give you enough room to slide a bit of welding rod or a coat hanger with a hook on in to pull on handle and open either drivers or passenger door, have tried this myself, on many different cars as sales staff/valeters like locking keys in cars!

it works on most cars and wont damage body work if you are carefull

MkIndy7 - 15/11/05 at 06:25 PM

I'd go with the shake the lock and plastic handle to buggery!

There's only a weedy clip holding it on.

*Delete this thread after before some thieving scum reads it* lol

G.Man - 15/11/05 at 06:25 PM

ring the AA or find local car thief, they will be in, in no time

Tiger Super Six - 15/11/05 at 06:26 PM

When I locked my keys in a Fiesta this was the approach adopted by the AA - worked a treat but one thing I would say is try to protect the paint where possible. If you do that it will leave no lasting problems.

Cut the base of the boot out with the angle grinder and patch it up. It won't be seen anyway

Sure you have it open by now anyway.

scotty g - 15/11/05 at 06:40 PM

No, i haven't got it open yet, i'm finding the job a bit difficult without my tools.
Guess where they are?!!!!!!!!!!!!!

caber - 15/11/05 at 07:04 PM

Just crowbar it someone will have a new bootlid for you from thier donor!

Caber

Ben_Copeland - 15/11/05 at 07:04 PM

Where are they ?? Oh just realised

I could pop up if your desperate... 20 mins away i'm guessing.

scotty g - 15/11/05 at 07:10 PM

Cheers for the offer Ben but i'm not panicking yet. Will work on it tomorrow.
Going to consult the Haynes manual as long as its not in the bloody boot!!!!!!

Ben_Copeland - 15/11/05 at 07:11 PM

Thats ok, just realised, thought you were in faversham, not folkestone

Let me know, good luck.

Mark Allanson - 15/11/05 at 08:10 PM

If you have a remote tailgate lever, there is a grommet immediately beneath it, remove grommet, thin bit of wire through the carpet, tug the lever.....

scotty g - 15/11/05 at 08:31 PM

Hu-bloody-ray, job done.
Drove a wooden wedge in the top back corner of the passenger door and used a wire coat hanger.
Hooked the passenger door lock no problem but still couldn't open it, the handle needs to be pulled out towards the middle of the car rather than back.
Plan B, cellotaped two lengths of hanger wire together and reached right over to the drivers side lock, this was not easy, a bit like hooking the fairground duck times 100, plus the wife utterly failed to hold the torch steady and the stearing kept getting in the way.
But i'm in now so thanks guys.
Scotty G.

Peteff - 15/11/05 at 08:34 PM

Screwdriver one of the door locks off and work the linkage with your fingers or snipe nose pliers. You'll find the clips in the bottom after and be able to put it back together. Sorry, too late, well done though.

kipper - 15/11/05 at 08:59 PM

If all the above don't work can I have the diff and uprights when you atack it with the angle grinder?
Kipper.

matt_claydon - 15/11/05 at 11:35 PM

I know this kind of info is pretty well known, but it might be a good idea for scotty to delete this thread now as we don't want chav scum being able to google too easily how to break into our donors / people's pride and joys!

Well done for getting in though!

Cheers,
Matt

Rorty - 16/11/05 at 04:02 AM

I wouldn't worry. Most chavs would have learned all this in primary school.

If it happens again, use a length of that plastic packing strap with a specially shaped end (email for details).

scotty g - 16/11/05 at 07:28 AM

Shouldn't happen again, iv'e given her indoors a spare key. Thanks again for all the quick advice, even the more humourous suggestions using angle grinders helped to stop me getting too stressed.
Cheers guys.
