Only in America
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
dont say that !
tooo late
BUGGA!

I wihs it was "only in America" but unfortunately this sort of PC buIIsh1t is happening more and more over here....
...........................I thought it was the americans that referred to us as the "stiff-ass brits".....................times would appear to be a-changing!
Its a show of the christian religious fundamentalism (christian right) in America. It exists everywhere, but seems to be most prominent in the US.
It seems that she got in trouble only for explaining the true sources of the things we regard as christian, it was after all the Catholic League that
made a fuss...
Her saying this:
"Santa is also borrowed from the Caucasus, mistletoe from the Celts, yule log from the Goths, the time from the Visigoth and the tree from the
worship of Baal. It is a wide wide world"
Is quite correct, very few of the symbols of the christian celebration of Christmas are actually of christian descent, but have been borrowed from
many other faiths/cults.
There was recently a thing in the US that they wouldnt teach evolution in schools due to it going against what is written in the bible (however it
does not unless you take what is written literally, which you shouldnt). However this is the same country where religious education is banned in
schools...
Political correctness is going too far in a lot of countries. Soon it will be difficult to say anything incase you offend someone in someway. And in a
lot of cases its being enforced through the minorities claiming to be treated unfairly, and have our culture forced upon them. Imagine how upset the
Indian population would be if we said they couldnt call Diwali that anymore...there would be a huge fuss! However if some other faiths get together
and say they are offended by Christmas, then we just seem to take it and let them have their way.
Now I am by no means racist or otherwise, however, if you are in a country where the predominant faith is Christian, then you should respect the right
for Christians to celebrate their holidays, just as we let them celebrate theirs. Likewise they should respect the culture of the country as a whole,
and not expect it to change. If you live in the UK, you live by the culture of the UK. Like it or lump it as far as I am concerned.

Before you bash America too much don't you guys recognize "Jedi" as an official religion?
Jedi Knights achieve official recognition as a religion....
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2001/10/09/jedi_knights_achieve_official_recognition/
OK with that in mind...carry on.

the jedi thing was a big joke at the time, we all filled jedi out on census forms to try to get it listed as a real religeon, for a laugh.
It didnt
work though did it?!
Oi, leave my religion alone ......
yeah, i really did do that!
may the force be with you.
me too!
I was in the states over xmas 9 years ago.
I was struck by two things.
1. that their attitude to xmas decorations is way over the top (i like it) - the recommended amount of lights for a 6ft tree was 500+ on the packet I
read.
2. And that everone says happy holidays, and not xmas.
I pointed this out on the net once and had an American bite my head off.

PS
if there is a seperation between state and religion, why does american money say 'in god we trust' and the last sentance of most presidents
is 'god bless america'.
Anyone ever heard a brit politician say 'god bless the uk'
?
i think its just an oddity. Ie, the pc brigade hasnt caught up yet!
there was something a while ago about god in the courthouse, wasnt it the ten
commandments?
all nonsense to me. Its nice that we're not alone in going 'to hell in a handcart'
(forgive the religious refference
)

Just got back from work to read the results of my post....
The usa is too PC....
but occassionally there is a backlash.
Taget (stores) recently it announced it would no longer let salvation army ask for alms in front of their stores (in a bid for seration between chrch
and store.....they got boycotted and it hurt their bottom line)
I have NEVER heard anyone say merry xmas...HAppy holidays yes...most often Merry Christmas.
Yes the holidays in gereral are a mixture of pagan holdays and rituals...Americans dont wanna think about it though.
G*d on the money some people are trying to change that...cause they are offended. What ever...
Pledge to the Flag..the Courts rule the pledge to the flag voluntary...an athesist Dad sued because the term " one nation under G*d"...not
that his kid had to say it but because his kid heard it and was/could have been offended. More like a hair up Dad bum than anything else....big
uproar over that but it may stick...liberal califonia courts.
The problem with PC is that we get decissions, policies, and laws made because of a small minority.

anyway, just means you can't be in my gang !
