GM Cosworth Vega 1975

Can anyone tell me if a Cosworth powered Vega is of any value?

There is one available here in Phoenix, AZ.

It has a plaque on the dash with the #1335 on it.

To me they are ugly little cars, but the Cossy engine is very pretty!

In case anyone was wondering what a Cosworth Vega looks like then take a look at http://www.canadiandriver.com/articles/bv/cosworth_vega.htm

Warning, prolonged exposure could lead to nausea.

From that article:
"When Road & Track magazine (7/76) finally got one to test (from a private owner) it found that the 1998 cc (122 cu in.), 110 horsepower twin-cammer took a mediocre 12.3 seconds to accelerate the car from zero to 96 km/h (60 mph). This was barely faster than the 12.7 seconds of another recently introduced little two-door hatchback, the Volkswagen Scirocco (R & T 2/75). "

Sounds like it not even worth buying as a donor

Obviously not up to Cosworths usual reputation. I guess it was seriously strangled by emissions regs?

think reading between the lines it was strangled by an utterly crap GM base for the engine!!

the engines are good apparently , if not strangled by the gm cams which were for emissions .

i think youd get shot using one as a donor tho

The alloy blocked Cosworth Vega engine is a fabulous bit of kit; looks like a slightly larger BDG. The cam covers are virtually identical. In the USA these engines have been tuned to over 300bhp, and are still used in classic racing powering single seaters and sportsracing cars.

When i lived in Virginia in the late 90s I nearly bought a Cosworth Vega. The car is actually very similar underneath to an A series Manta and can be made to handle and perform very well. As standard it has double wishbone front suspension and a very well located coil-sprung live axle. MUCH more sophisticated than the ubiquitous f***ing Ford Escort.

I like 'em!!!!!!!

Cheers Memphis.

maybe I was wrong then!!!

Just sounded a bit dodgy using plain ally bores with no nicasil coating or anything!!

yeah , the ally bores , were a problem ,they can still churn the power out tho .

they are worth some money in good shape. Expensive to restore if ratty.
