hi peeps, just curious really, ive been after a private plate for my daily driver and the one i want, (K9 SJO) isnt for sale. Would the dvla tell me if the plate i am after has been issued, and give me the address of the registered keeper to ask if it was for sale?

haven't got a link for you but yes DVLA reg site will tell you if its been issued or not, they wont tell you who too though if it is out there, Ive been after

JON 150N

for god knows how long, never been issued they tell me they will notify me if it comes up for auction, they auction off unreleased plates of interest every so often.

I have been after

L14MMC

which was auctioned in 93 and bought for £250 gutted or what

I think you could apply to have future plates auctioned before they were issued not sure now though

thanks people, thats half the battle, knowing its a registration thats in use! might fone the 'friendly' dvla office in the morning to see what the score with contacting the owner is..

say you were hit by them and are trying to find out contact details and where they live ittl be alot easier lol

I was reading in the paper today that DVLA sell driver details for £2.50 but only to Deserving people such as dodgy wheel clampers and carpark operators, so if you can prove you really should know who the owner is then they may help.
Sounds like another government sponsored scam to me.
Paul.
