Honda ran a 6 stroke engine at the Shell Mileage Marathon (now Eco Marathon) when I drove our school entry in the early '90s, it did nearly
8,000mpg IIRC.
WOW!!!
How is it possible to make any engine do 8000MPG?

The record is now over
10,000mpg:
As has been said its not a proper car, just a trike with a small engine. At school we used an old C90 Honda 4 stroke moped engine and still managed to
achieve nearly 1000mpg. All you need to so is average 15mph around the circuit which in my day used to be Silverstone national but its now done at
Rockingham. Its not quite as impressive as you think though because you're allowed to turn the engine off and coast as long as you maintain the
average speed, so in our case I was only using the engine for 3 bursts up to about 30mph per 1.somthing mile lap, then coasting the rest.
There you go, two ex Milage Marathon drivers on here.
When did you do it Gazza? If I recall correctly (and from the T shirts) I think I did it from about '90 to '92?
We have been every year since the first one with an open entry list in '77, I drove ours from the age of 11 till 15, so that'll be from about '82 till '86. Our best is around 4200, I can't remember the exact figures.
Ah ok, sounds lke you take it quite seriously to get those kind of figures!
Ours was a pretty lame effort to be honest, the school wouldnt put much money into it and one year we even had to build the car so it would accomodate
a 16st teacher just so he could have a go, subsequently it weighed a ton!
