Average kit lead time
nludkin - 27/12/05 at 06:11 PM

I was wondering the other day. What is the average lead time that people encounter when waiting for their kits? Is the industry fairly slow or pretty good?

I've just received the bulk of mine in 4 weeks. I don't have the body panels but to be honest I don't have the space in the garage for them at the moment so I don't want them yet.

and you can brace yourself for the poor fitment of them all!!!

ps about 4 weeks as above

Trouble is not many of the smaller kit firms make everything and rely on sub contractors.

nludkin - 27/12/05 at 07:33 PM

I have been waiting for 10 months now!

Every time I have called (50+ times) I am told it will be 2 more weeks! That could partially be a sub-contractor issue but in this case I have a hunch it's bad capacity planning?

joolsmi16 - 27/12/05 at 08:15 PM

you could have completed a large amount of the kit in 10 months!! Is the GTS kit that good is can possibly warrant a lead time of that.

You must be very determined to have it, would have made a nice xmas present.

Triton - 27/12/05 at 08:23 PM

10 mths is a tad long to wait though

nludkin - 27/12/05 at 08:26 PM

After being led to believe the kit would be complete in 2 weeks I surrendered about 2500 quid to the kit manufacturer. I am still 1200 quids worth of parts and no concrete delivery time.

I believe this is breach of contract? Or so a few solicitor mates have told me.

To make things worse, of the parts I do have (Then don't fit properly!)

I wish I wasn't so damn laid back (Oh well, new years resolution and all that!)

It's just a shame that all the enthusiasm I had a year ago for building a kit car has almost all gone.

Strong words with them i would suggest. Have a search on here for GTS and u will see your not the only one that waits for bits. Me included. There craftmanship is superb but service lets them down.

MK Kit - 2 weeks from ordering but depends on how busy they are at the time of ordering. MK Indy is a good kit, hardly any fitment problems.

If you think MK, MNR, GTS, Mac#1 are bad you should try an AvOn... from what I hear they are diabollockall.

If i were you i would phone and suggest some legal action even if it just gets your kit to you earlier. 10 months of being told 2 weeks is bang out of order. GTS are the only company i hear about who treat there customers like this, It's disgraceful.

zxrlocost - 28/12/05 at 09:44 AM

yes but there another company who sell loads of stuff for being shit!

I wish I could sell loads of stuff for having terrible customer service and not communicating with customers etc

it fecking amazes me!!!

BUT I have always said and its very true
that people who

dont give a shit
are rude
couldnt care less
poor service

get every where in life and get loads of respect of people

nludkin - 28/12/05 at 01:11 PM

The last time I phoned my kit manufacturer. I got the response of a 3 year old after a blue smarty binge.

He was patronising, defensive and downright rude! It took 20 minutes to talk him out of the mood before he listened to reason.

All that from asking "After 10 months, Where is my kit?"

Perhaps a letter from one of your mates would get things moving as a last resort? Sad when things come to that though. Think I had to wait about 4 weeks from ordering my kit to collecting . Once phoned one saturday morning to see if they had a fuel tank in stock, was told they had . When I got there I saw a guy leaving with one under his arm , when I enquired I was told it the last one in stock that was finished and asked if I had 1/2hr. Was then taken into welding shop and shown how it was made . Can't get better service than that.
