
Anybody got knowledge of the above. My Misses is eying up a fully loaded 406 auto, climate control, cruise control, all the bells and wistles, 85k miles, £2950, X reg, 2001. For her (not me), are they any good, anything to look out for, whatever. Thanks, Ray
Check all electrics work - I had three turbo's on mine got shut after 2 years from new...
ARB bushes... nothing else went wrong!
ive had a few, mostly v6's. Mine all seemed ok, but a mate has had terrible luck with his electrics - and not just windows etc. Wipers that dont
park, engine dying randomly etc. In fact my current one is a w reg estate, and its having a few troubles starting, window motor died and boot often
doesnt lock shut - it opened on the motorway once
that said, the v6s with leather are well comfortable and dirt cheap. In fact, you dont really want to pay 3k for an x reg. little less would be
better. Last executive i bought was about 3 years ago, an r reg for 2k.
Wife had a 406 Exec for a couple of years as a company car. All the bells & whistles & everything worked well 'till I drowned it in a flood. Played hell with the cream leather interior & leccy seats!
I've got the V6 engine in my 306. Seems reliable enough so far. Had an alternator die on me, but I suspect that was down to bad luck.

V6 in a 306? Didnt think they did that.
What engine is it? The HDi's give a bit of trouble at higher mileage if theyr not looked after. German swedish and french car parts are good
for parts.
Get it. I had the chance of one cheap and didnt get it. Regretted it ever since.

Just bought my mates 100k R-reg 406 auto GLX with all the gear on for £900, the wife loves it .....
good engines, gearboxes ok BUT Electrical system --- typical french very prone to connection faults. My daughter also had an alternator die --
at 20k miles.
Also keep a close eye on rear wheel bearings if the vehicle has been used to carry loads --

It would seem that the car is pretty much like any other, some good points, some bad. But from the tone of things seems she would be fairly safe with it. thanks again.
The price seems a bit steep, it should be from an approved dealer with 12 months warranty on those terms.
The saloons depreciate dreadfully, the estates (especially the diesels) a a bit better.
to add some clarity to the price, i bought a w reg 1.8 petrol estate a few months ago, 130k with most of the history, for £1400.
