I've bought a Peavy 5150 valve head to go with my cab from america. I have the correct plug adaptor but I don't know anything about US to UK power ratings. The last thing I want to do is b0rk my amp so I wondered if there is a magic box to change the voltage/amps/'magic planets in the wires' to the correct rating? If so where can I get one? Maplins were no use at all

Here's some things it says on the head:

120W RMS/44V RMS 4 ohm MIN


Near the power cable:
120VAC
60Hz
400Watts

Fuse 5A.

You just need a 240V to 120V AC transformer. You can get them from people like Maplins and RS i think. They are ceratinly made for stuff thats imported from the US.

Infact you may find that if you phone Peavy UK up, they might sell you the 240V power supply unit to go in the back of the head unit (ie remove the 110V unit and put the 240V unit in). They are usually swappable in stuff like that. No idea how much it would cost though.

The First row of figures you give sound like the power outputs of the amp. 120W RMS is enough to keep your strret awake . 4ohm is probably the speaker impedance in the head unit. Most guitar amp speakers are 4ohm I think (my Peavy is 3.2ohms).

If your lucky you might only need to move a tap on the transformer inside, it is likely to have a 240V tap as well as a 120V one.. If you do this make sure you have someone who knows what they are doing..
