Honda Accord Cam Belt Change
mookaloid - 5/2/06 at 11:39 PM

Anyone got any experience with the Honda 1.8 VTEC engine? 1999 year

I need to change the cambelt - is it straightforward? Where are the marks situated? do I need any special tools? How do I get the correct tension?

Any info much appreciated

TIA

Cheers

quite easy to do, loads of marks for the crank etc, cant remember if they have a balance shaft on the 1.8, but if it has, it will have a small triangle mark in the block for that. the worst thing is getting the crank pully bolt undone, you may need a tool for that, otherwise they are ok

i could prob scan the details out of my cambelt bible an email them to you if thats any use

They are pretty easy. No balance shaft so just one belt. Marks are easy enough but I always make my own just in case. Cam pulley says up and has 2 marks that line up with top of head and crank has a clear mark on it as well. To tension it has a spring loaded tensioner. Check for TSBs on that spring though. Some hondas have a TSB to replace that spring with a shorter one. As Ketchups evil monkey said, the balancer bolt is TIGHT. Think its something like 150ftlbs + 1/4 turn with loctite. My impact gun wont take them off so I have to borrow a co-workers big gun. You have to get a little creative to get if off w/o a gun but I have done it before.
