My neighbour had one of those many years ago, it had a beetle engine with fuel injection, 1600cc I think and it was metallic green. edit:- It was 1500cc and there's the very one here under the 1966 picture.

V W Type 3 ,beetle engine with twin carbs , some had early electronic fuel injection systems.

I can confirm that the picture is of a VW Type 3 Fastback. I had a Type 3 Variant that was the estate model (an estate with a boot up front as well!) it was a 1.6l with fuel injection. There was also a saloon version called the Notchback. The headlights have been altered and it has been lowered.

Contrary to popular myth it isn't a beetle rebody. They have a different chassis and suspension. The engine is based on that of the beetle (VW Type 1, the campers are type 2's) but there is a special aluminium fan housing mounted on the back instead of on top.

Sorry for being an anorak!
