That's some diesel!
David Jenkins - 19/3/06 at 08:09 PM

Watched a bit of the American Le Mans series live on Sky TV yesterday - won by an Audi turbo diesel!

LINK

Odd to hear it running, as it was massively quieter than the howling petrol-powered cars - which gave the drivers a real problem, as they couldn't predict when to change gears - they always had to use the change-light & instruments.

Very impressive.

What did you have to go and tell everyone that for?

Now there will have to be a DEC forum!

Mmmmmm,

Do you think that engine would fit in the A3 ?

Oh Clarkson's face must be a picture (Bulldog licking p*ss off a nettle I'd imagine )

Can't see any reason not to add an audio feedback of rpm if the drivers really wanted it, could even add cunning audio hints (a verbal 'change now or engine detonation in 10...9...8...' might give them a hint )

I realy wanna build a kit with a vw pd engine in it......mad????

ned - 19/3/06 at 09:52 PM

could you fit one in a mojo billy?

it'd definately fit in an aeon with a bit of modification...

or how about start off with a vw phaeton or tourareg 5ltr tdi - thats a v10 with 313bhp and 556lb/ft as standard - then chip it to 370bhp and 600lb/ft - that should shift nicely!

I wonder what the MPG was for that race??? I wonder if it was able to do less fuel stops??

David Jenkins - 20/3/06 at 01:36 PM

I don't remember what they said about mpg - the main reason for most pit stops was for tyres, as Sebring was supposed to be a tyre-wrecking circuit.
