Windows movie maker will do all you need if its that simple.

And its freeeee (if you have windows )

Make sure you get version 2.1 and you are away. You can update it on the microsoft website:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/moviemaker/default.mspx

Windows Movie Maker.

Included in WinXP, free upgrades (worth getting) from the MS website. Does the job and it's free.

I stopped using it because I also had a copy of Ulead Video Studio bundled with my PC. Which is better in almost every regard but quite expensive if you actually had to buy it I believe.

Incidentally I still use WMM to produce the final output file, it's got quite a good tool for tuning the quality to meet a particular file size. Basically I output a full quality avi (huge file) from Ulead and then open it up in WMM and convert to a sensible file size.
