Check out the videos of the test runs.

Doesn't sound like taxi and no black smoke, they must be cheating!

Love the Andy Green interview on the latest video "yeah we lost the parachute as we slowed down, but we knew that was going to happen"

Best of British to the nutter!

Mike

I was at RAF Wittering the week before they flew out, they did some test runs next to us and there WAS smoke, until they blew a tyre as they hadn't thought about turning corners on the runway.

Best of british to them

As impressive as the new Audi diesel LeMans-style racing cars - that keep winning against all the petrol cars!

Apparently the designer specified that (a) they wouldn't be smoky, and (b) they wouldn't clatter like a taxi... and they still do more than 200mph and just keep going, making all the rest look like fragile toys.

As a proud sponsor* of both of the last two Land Speed Record cars, can I recommend Richard Noble's book, 'Thrust' to you all.

Fantastic story of brilliant back-yard engineering, inspired scrounging, unstinting belief, luck and friends willing to put themselves on the line. Brilliant, too, for the selection of photos. The SSC chassis looks like something out of Ron's book..... 'cept using steel 5 times the size and more!!

* My signature was carried on micro-film in 'Thrust 2' for about £2 I think it was and then I contributed to SSC by force of habit!!!!
