My wife found this old picture of a car her Nan used to own. She wants to know what it is, but despite a serious google, I still haven't the faintest

that must be an old photo!!! were in UK can you find a road that is free from parked cars and no traffic or speed cameras in sight

...very old, no crack pushers on the street corner. Looks like the Prefect has Sat Nav though (or maybe it's just a rear view mirror)

As the other guys say Ford Prefect c.1957, 1172cc side valve engine, single choke down-draught Stromberg or Zenith carb, three speed gearbox, vacuum operated wipers - the more you pressed the accelerator the slower the wipers went and they weren't fast at the best of times! 0-60 in about a fortnight. Drum brakes all round so stopping four up was interesting. Most were banger raced and they had a tendancy to rot so few survive. Cheers, Pewe

While on the subject .. a year or so ago .. I came across an Anglia Van, with a 1.6 litre turbocharged Ford Engine And believe me it was no slouch on the dragstrip!!

I had a part share in one when I was 15, we drove it up and down a farm track for a few months until it expired! Vac operated windscreen wipers slowed down when you pressed accelerator! Had a column shift and a 3 speed box. I haven't seeen one for long time!

go to the old school ford forum and have a look round. There are loads of people with 100e's (another name for them).

For the children on the board who don't remember the world in black and white, lorries went at 35-40 mph and cars at 50-65 on a good day. On a wet day when you pulled out to overtake (you used to be able to do this without being regarded as satan) floored the accelerator and the wipers cycle dropped to about 10 seconds. As 40 to 50 time was about ten seconds you had to be fairly sure the road was clear. You could still check your progress and position by watching the lorry through the passenger side window and get the occasional glimpse of the road ahead when the wipers were in the right position. At night it was even more exciting except when you were on a road that had catseyes down the middle when you could follow them. Those were the days.
