I know you guys arent into Tivs, but here we see yet another brilliant british marque likely to go overseas and then lose its identity. TVR have been in Blackpool for about 60 years, and should stay there.

Please sign the above if you feel it appropriate: 400 of us are parading our cars into London on Sunday, and are booked in 1400 at No10 Downing street to deliver the peitition. 3 TVRs will be allowed to park outside No10, and the rest of us will parade up and down Whitehall, before heading back to the ACE cafe on N. Circular.

It could also the largest ever single marque gathering...

If ya live in London, you'll hear us coming!

Ed.

AM I missing something here but what is the point? Do you really think 2,000, 20,000 or even 2 Million signatures will make any difference?

It is business not a popularity contest.

More people lost their jobs when Rover went down, now 2 years on I am not aware of the phoenix (sic) rising from the ashes.

Good luck anyway.

yeah but every extra post counts!!!!!!

Towards what, exactly?

AFAIK, the deal has been done to make the employees redundant, the factory sold off etc.

Don't get me wrong, I do like TVRs - I like the fact that they're British and a little eccentric BUT business is business - the owners need to make money or there will be no TVR at all!

ed_crouch - 24/11/06 at 03:52 PM

Probably make no difference, but are we all going to do that terribly british thing and sit on our fat arses and do nothing while ANOTHER british asset goes overseas, or make ourselves heard?

Im not.

I am, I sold my Griff only a month ago

Not sure the petition will make a difference though - it's Moleskin that's decided to move abroad despite options already available and "planned" in Blackpool, so that's what's going to happen.

At least they'll be built in Italy and so will have a fine build quality, and won't corrode at all...like Alfa's.........oh bugg3r!

jimmyjoebob - 24/11/06 at 07:19 PM

When the russian guy bought TVR we were waiting to see how long before the new owner moved it abroad. What wasn't realised was that he didn't have a lot of choice.

When Peter Wheeler sold the company he didn't sell the land on which the factory is based. This he leases to TVR and had no plans to renew it as he has been planning housing development on the site.

Peter Wheeler has caused TVR to relocate knowing that this would force it abroad.

Confused but excited. - 24/11/06 at 08:08 PM

Then Peter Wheeler is a right female genital orifice!
Not a nice one either.

Made in crapland! Available here soon at similar prices to when MG R were in charge. Soon be the biggest auto manufacturer in the world. Will then buy GM/VW/Ford etc and worldwide automotive production will be made by people wearing pointy hats who have no human rights/employee rights/workers comp/any rights actually and paid a pittance. Oh yeah, and their currency is directly linked to the USD, which is weaker than ever today - so thir goods just got cheaper.

If you peeps want to keep buying foreign, expect to lose your jobs soon!!!

Annnnd iiiiiiiiiiii.Wannnnna beeeee!!Apathy.
The only real proper English lasting strength....Its a poor do realy isn't it.I have signed it.
At least 2000+ have bothered....

ed_crouch - 25/11/06 at 11:21 AM

Basically the petition is to ask the DTI to work harder to find TVR a site, and to hopefully convince Smolenski that there are UK options.

It may be that hes hell bent on exporting it anyway, but maybe not...

Jims right tho, Pete Wheeler is defo a "businessman", although when he was at the reigns, the company really flourished. The S series cars sold like hot cakes, and production volumes increased several fold. He had the wicked idea of putting the Rover V8 into the Tasmins, and hence my 390SE was born.

Bit disappointed too read a few of the comments posted by TVR owners on piston heads re people turning up in anything other than a TVR.

I cant afford one, my support is not welcome ? Cheers chaps.

ed_crouch - 26/11/06 at 09:01 PM

Jon, the people who said that shouldnt have done, and im sorry that they did. We did have people ther ein non TVRs. OK, so for the showboating outside Downing St, it had to be a Tiv really, but all suport is welcome.

It was an amazing day, bought Whitehall to a standstill. Loads photos on the TVR section of Pistonheads:

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/forum.asp?f=13&h=0&faq=False&p=0

Thankyou to those who signed the petition too. It was one hell of a test for the cars:

Torrential rain

We drove through 6 inches of standing water on the way

Loadsa traffic

Yep, we did have a few fall by the wayside, but out of 400 - 500 cars, thats not bad. There were also a few non Tivs conked out, so goes to show that the conditions were arduous.

Ed.
