Remote locking keys

I have just bought a Nissan primera estate car but unfortunately there was only one key for it.
Went to ask about a new key and was astounded to be told it would cost 120 quid?????????
I feel that the stores person should at least have been wearing a mask when trying to rob me.
Question ........Is there a lowcost solution to this problem or have they really got me by the sphericals.

Had the same thing with our Rover , just live with the 1 key fob now as iam not paying over £100 for 1 .

ditto with my PUG, £80, something to do with the immobilizer needs to be coded into the remote

Get two conventional keys cut from your original, fix the imobiliser key under the dash somewhere close to the steering column. Of course it means you lose the extra security of the imobiliser

Get one key cut first to see if it will work for you

Blame the little sods that steal cars --- due EC goverments and insurance companies making the manufacturers do it post year 2000 cars all have complex security systems that generally need dealer or an auto diagnostic or locksmith to introduce the new blipper to the cars ECUs.

With Rovers coding the blipper to the ecu can be done either on or off car or some companies will even loan/hire you a neat little programer unit that codes your blippers to the ecu.

Just be thankful you don't have a Fiat as some models actually forget the keys coded to them --- some owners have ended up with 1500 pound bills for new ECUs and blipper keys.

Normal Rover remotes for the Lucas or Motorola security system on the 25/45/200/400 and later 600 & 800s (ie not the 75 or early 600 and 800) are about 40 pounds or 60 pounds including getting the security ECU coded.


As they fail with age and the batteries also need replaced with the normal type of Rover remote it ESSENTIAL to have a spare or at least know the EKA for your car.
