Anyone else doing their own GRP?
Alan B - 21/5/02 at 01:09 PM

Guys,

I'm doing all the bodywork on my car from GRP, including plugs and moulds. Anyone else doing a lot of their own? Want to share ideas, experiences etc?
My own (slow) progress is at:

Hi Alan,

Check out my web link then >build tips > miscellaneous (has that word ever been spelled correctly, certainly not by me!!!)

You'll find the online GRP guide and making rear wheel arches which may help in your quest for the perfect body, although, looking at the photo, your'e already in shape.

Round is a shape

I am not too far away from doing the front of my car. Its going to be a morgan style front and I suspect it will have to be from GRP. I want to use as much alu as poss in the basic bodywork, but thats gonna push the capabilities of my garage a bit.

Cheers Chris,

It's nearly 20 years since I last did any GRP work, and you've brought a lot of it back to me
The trailer mudguard as basis for your wheel arch plug is good trick. Creating shapes from scratch is VERY time consuming, so any help is welcome.

Thanks,

Alan B

Hi John,

I've still got a long, long, long way to go yet
However, I do appreciate the encouragement.

Cheers,

Alan

Hi Allan

You're not alone in this adventure.
It's nearly 30(!) years since I've done my last GRP for a Formula Ford I designed and built myself.
I'm still in the phase of dreaming (look at Portuguese Locost in the Files area of the Locost_Theory group) but I shall not use any alu in my project, all GRP.
Keep going and let us know in your site.

Cheers
