Power Oversteer!
Fred W B - 24/9/06 at 06:46 PM

This weekend we had the local round of the SA national car racing circus. This is a "Wesbank Modified", which are space frames with big V8's. See the rubber stripe the white and red car is laying out of a corner! I took the photo on a small "point and shoot" digital.

Cheers

Apparently they are real animals to drive. This guy misses the apex with big understeer on one lap,

and gets big oversteer on another.

Looks like good racing, what kind of bhp do these things have?

According to a website I found, this is a typical engine spec:

LS1 block , 426 stoker kit, Forged pistons, Steel crank, Steel rods, Aftermarket heads, Moroso accumulator, 1600 cc injectors, Spider manifold, 2000 CFM throttle body ,4.5 bar fuel system,Wolf3D engine management, one coil per cylinder, 600 Hp on the wheels, 625 Newton meters on the wheels

Cheers

600hp...that explains the power sliding out of turns then
I can't think of any race series up here that comes close

Cheers

Wesbank Modifieds ? They look like 2 or 3 year old Trans-Am series race cars from the USA, as raced by the likes of Paul Gentilozzi and Boris Said etc. They used to be on Sky alot (Motors TV etc), but I have not seen them recently. I found a piece about P.Gentilozzi winning a race on Speed TV's website from 9/4/06,so as far as I know they are still current in the States.
