Crap DSL connection

It seems like my DSL connection nods off from time to time. I'll load a few pages just fine, then it will go to sleep. I have my choice of waiting about a minute for it to wake up again, or I can disconnect and re-connect (EnterNet 300 is the connection management proggie).

After a while I get a bulletproof connection and hate to turn the computer off again.

I called tech support at the phone company and they acted as though they never heard of the problem before. In my experience, this means that it is a well-known bug caused by Windows or some way they are intentionally porking the users

Anyone got any suggestions?

I have been having similar problems, but only when viewing this website.
I have cable, not DSL.

If I go to a different site when it freezes things are fine, but can't get back here again. It just goes into pause mode and eventually times out.

I thought it was computer at first.

I get it on all kinds of pages on two different computers, running 98se and Me.

Hmm, you have a problem with LB only? Could be Chris W trying to snatch your credit card numbers or something j/k of course.

Seriously, if you're running any kind of popup or cookie blocker you may want to exclude LB. Could be a factor.

I have had the same thing with dial up, I have changed motherboards, processors, memory and operating systems, but I still get the connection not sending or recieving although it is still connected, it sometimes wakes up again and I can carry on normally, but ususally needs disconnecting and reconnecting

If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

Have a read at this and try the speedtest link, it tells you what you are really receiving. You can get tweaks for the registry from some sites to optimise your connection.

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

I've noticed a few times (quite regularly actually) that I have to click on a link more than once (I don't mean immediately) for it to open. Only seems to be this site though.

In fact I had to click on reply twice to get to post this message.

Thanks for that link, Pete, lots of food for thought. Noticed that my operating systems are subject to buggered Winows communications, will try re-installing.

What kind of connection is it Joel? This is a Freeserve broadband result 421kbps downstream 245kbps upstream actual speed. It varies at different times of day but we've only had it a week so I've not got used to it yet and still compare it to dialup. I've been looking round and Bulldog are doing a cheaper offer so we might look at that.

Sorted

I wound up dumping the EnterNet 300 connection program provided by my ISP and installing Tango Access. Turns out that the software publisher is saying that the EnterNet is shyte and no longer supports it after this month!

Just ran thru about 100 web pages with not a bog. Highly recommended!!
