You didn't say what age of car. I have a 1.2 Punto and a 1.4 Bravo, both ECU controlled, never had any problems. First thing to check would be all the sensors and connections if nothing obvious, its probably down the Fiat main dealer for them to plug in the laptop (sorry)

also the fuel pump has always been noisey so maybe i should disconect the pipes and run them into a bottle to check the fuel pump
What makes it worse is i cant get it into my warm garage cos a half built locost is in the way

If the fuel pump was noisey, and now has suddenly become quiet, you have found your problem

The 1108cc is a FIRE engine, check out the tensioner bearings, I have replaced a few.

Seems a bit daft, but when you tension the new belt, check the valve timing by setting your strobe to TDC while the engine is running and then see if the cam pully marks are also in line, if not adjust the tension until they do.

It makes a hell of a difference to the FIRE, when all is set up, it makes it a really eager, free revving motor, a pleasure to drive.

The Fiat tool is basically what the X19 has as standard fit, you pulled the spring loaded tensioner back, tightened it in the slackest position, hand turned the engine over one full revolution, unlocked the tensioner bolt, it snapped into position under its own spring, tighten up the bolt in this position and drive on.

Phase Variator Punto HGT

Hi all

Have you ever had anything to do with the variator that changes the valve timing on the punto hgt ?. Mine sound's like a diesel on start up and it is the variator that is at fault not the tappets.

Thanks Carl
