Virus (Trojan) check

I have a Norton virus checker which I update at least once/week. I recently went to a link posted on here for Trend Micro where you get free virus scan's. To my amazement it found two viruses Both trojan's - one of them giving me very dodgy pop-up's and the other reconfiguring my homepage to a search engine www********.cc (Steve Gust I believe your's does the same!). Anyway, just to check if you have the startpage one.... go to find files and type in:

hh.htt

tips.ini

If you have either or both of these you have it too. But, don't just take my word for it, if you go to the site (link above in red) it'll scan for you FREE!!!

I've done the process to rid and guess what... I'm back to normal again

I'm also removing my current virus checker and getting another one which is better! Maybe one recommended by the site itself

Hope this helps in any way!!!

Regards

i noticed that too, there seems to be a big difference between which checkers find what. not much use if you want a consistant scan...

Yes, hellfire I had a .cc on my work PC

I used all three of the software packages mentioned in the other thread before I managed to kill it.

However, later on Friday it killed my PC too....all i got at startup was (on Me) the desktop blue, with no start bar or tasks running!

I re-installed windows, and removed all of the 3 packages, and its been ok for over a day.

usually it changes at least once or twice in a day, and always first thing in the morning

Dang!

One nice feature of Me is the System Restore function, helpful if you've buggered something by mistake.

Steve, if you're still having problems, I suggest that you run HijackThis, hit the 'Scan' button, then 'Save log'. If you post the log here, someone should be able to figure out the problem. Or you can e-mail it to me, if you'd like.

very odd

anyway, make sure your AV software has realtime scanning turned on.

and for fricks sake, got yourself a firewall, a hardware one is better in most cases (as seen in most adsl routers, but may still allow browser exploits to be used by sites) or a software one like this (bottom most download) which'll stop anything you want accessing the interweb , so can be good for stopping viruses getting too far

Just checked office computer, had 6 listings of Virus's. They use Norman Virus Control, with updates everytime the computers online. It's obviously crap !

I seem to be fixed now!

I thought about system restore AFTER I started putting windows back on. Never used it - and if it cant be started from boot, it wouldnt have loaded anyway!

Not even safe mode would work.

All antivirus compainies resaearch seperatly to keep competitive. If they all share information theyd all be broke but you wont get this. In defence to Norton and McAfee that I beklieve were slated above, no-one is every safe from everything.
