Screwfix?

More like ShittyCrapFix

went to B&Q to buy some slotted shelf bars but only had one in the length I needed - obvioulsy you need 2.

So popped into ScrappyFix - they had them, tried to fit my bracket in but wouldn't go in when wrapped so should have seen the warning signs there but would go in when unpacked.

So got home, got the drill out, masony bit etc and fitted one bar to the wall.

come fitr the bracket, arse, would it go in? No.

Turns out that ShittyFix to sell thier stuff cheaper, the brackets are not as deep as the "standard" ones..

Off to garage and introduced the brackets to Mr Grinder.

so they you go. Beware of Screfix.

Also avoid their self-tappers.

i've only bought acouple of things from screwfix:

MDPE blue pipe - installed and no problems

25mm masonry drill bit - worked no probs

Torque wrench - not tried it yet

So the thing that might break i haven't tried! I'm sure it will be fine though Unfortunately i don't have a machine mart close enough to me to be able to 'bob in' and get bits i need

They are pretty good for bulk screws and fixings IMHO.... The quality is reasonable considering...

However since they opened the shitty trade centres the price of everything has been going up and up... its now not much cheaper than focus!

(incidentally the local trade centre never has anything I want in stock!)

I don't believe there is any kind of "standard" to those things so you always have to use matching bars and brackets from the same manufacturer.

I've got the screwfix ones and they fit together just fine when using their matching brackets.

Never used a self tapper for anything, horrible things.

Have you got a Toolstation nearby? The guys that set up Screwfix sold out to B&Q and after a timelimit expired, they set up Toolstation in competion - the range isn't as wide, but their prices are better. I'm lucky, I've got both, a B&Q warehouse, a Homebase, a Machine Mart, a Halfords and three proper car parts shops within about three miles of home! Unfortunately I've also got the Trafford Centre (or Traffic Centre as my oldest son calls it)

No problems with them either , Went in one evening to get a new cordless drill , the one I ordered was about £95. When I got home I unpacked it and put it on charge, wasn't until later I realised they had given me one that should have cost £200 . They were shut by the time I found out and I keep forgetting to remind them !

They are both owned by the Kingfisher group.

Working there has it's benefits too, 20% off at B&Q and Screwfix.

New catalogue out tomorrow btw
