Buying a new camera?
Just bought myself a new Canon Ixus camera from Jessops in Doncaster.
After looking on the Internet at prices and comparing them to shop prices I noticed big differences(like up to £100)
Conversation went like: I like the Canon but it's alot cheaper on the Internet!
Yes but we do a price match policy sir!,replied the lady in the shop.
Quickly retuning home and printing a few offers from the internet, I returned as rapidly as possible with said documents in hand.
RESULT: £60 off my chosen camera(the one I didn't think I could afford) and one spluttering lady shop assistant having to stick to her word,and
policy .
You should have seen her face at the price I showed her!THAT IS CHEAP she coughed.
So if anyone is buying a new camera!!!!!!
Once I've finished a project why do I start another?

I did the same...
at Miller Bros. with my daughters Mini-disc player. But Millers wouldn't even match their online (hidden) branch's price... so I ended up
paying full whack for it. Still worth the money tho'...

A lot of places now have a clause in the price match policy excluding internet prices. Used to work well a few years back though.

Two things I never buy in the UK are cameras and watches.
I have been looking at a new digital SLR and a big lens in the UK they cost.
Cannon EOS 10D body £1159
Cannon 100-400 zoom £ 1170 total £2329
In New York they cost
Cannon EOS 10D body £832
Cannon 100-400 zoom £771 total £1603 thats at $1.8 to the £ + £320 to go and pick them up over a long weekend and still save £406 enough for 1/2
price extras, compact flash cards or save the money.
Ps don't forget to go through the red channel at customs and declare them to pay vat duty and anything else this country can rip you off for.

I got my powershot A70 for the equiv of 170 quid in usa when they were 300 here.
Of course, some people forget to declare things like that in customs - i mean, how can they tell you didnt buy it in the UK if you dont have any
american documentation ion the box?
Beware - if you order by mail you generally cop import tax and vat.
Dixons is one of the WORST places to shop for electricals. Not the cheapest and in many cases I have seen them sell cameras that have been replaced by
newer models....

ps - last time I looked you could get Canon A60 for 90 quid (import tax applies) on ebay.
Powerhouse once gave me a 10% discount EVEN THO the price was more expensive int he example I gave. I took in my wifes Great universal home shopping
catalog, and said she gets 10% commission - ie discount - on that price - if you give me the same deal I will buy - and they did. I think that the TV
was 25 quid more in the catalog  - that was 4 years ago, things may have changed
