Congratulations to Ben and Tom Birchall

Two local lads from just down the road, new sidecar world champions.

Remortgaged house to get the funds together, well done lads. Clinched the championship yesterday at Le man.

Nice one
pass on my congratulations to them Malc, I always enjoyed rubbing paint with Ben on track and if my memory serves me right you used to chuck one about fairly
I miss it like mad but having extracted 90 years of living from a 40 year old body I think I would rattle all my pins out if I got back on one now!

i'd love a shot of a sidecar, never gonna happen though

are they really difficult to handle? for some reason i think they're more stable (or easier) than a bike?

you know my thing for putting race cars on the road... lol

they are without a shadow of a doubt the weirdest handling things to get your head around. Basically 3 wheels and not a single one is in line or pointing the same way. Passengering is an art form that must be learnt real quick if extensive stays in hospital are to be avoided and it isnt long before you learn that you are way more than just ballast. Weighting or allowing the drive slick to spin up can be used to induce under or oversteer helping the rider slide the outfit through a corner.
I had 12 good years of the sport in F2 and F1's but at the cost of more pins plates and metalwork than I like to think about. Strangely enough, having survived the TT it was Oulton park that finally finished my career, basically way to little respect for an awseome circuit saw me with 4 broken vertebrae a broken ankle and a smashed kneecap, I think Malc thought it was game over for me that day!!
Having said that I would do it all again and would be back on one now if I was allowed.
