How Difficult To Sell... Audi V8 Engine

The 2007 RS4 engine should be ready early next year. It was initially intended for use in the Ultima Spyder, but that project has fallen by the wayside and won't be resurrected for a LONG time!

I made the decision to use it in my Quantum Xtreme as I reckon it's probably owe me more than what anyone would be willing to pay... but what do I know ("not a lot", before anyone beats me to it!).

Thing is - it's now complicating everything I do with the Quantum in the meantime and a little devil is sitting on my shoulder chirping "flog it and invest in the Duratec!".

The spec is as follows:

2007 RS4 4.2 V8. Was less than a year old when I bought it and it had covered 6k miles.
Fully stripped and re-assembled to ensure correct. It's pristine!
Both cylinder heads have been ported and polished, and the direct injection ports and secondary air injection ports have been professionally filled by Altiss Engineering.
They also fabricated 2 inlet manifolds to take Hayabusa throttle bodies and the TB's have been spaced, the linkages adapted, upgraded injectors fitted and custom ally velocity stacks made. All connected by proper rubbers and they really look fantastic (Altiss are the daddy!).
The deleted FSi fuel pump mounting ports have been capped.
All unnecessary drives have been removed and the ports plugged.
The water inlet / outlet have been adapted to accept screw-in fittings for an external electric pump.
The dual mass flywheel was junked and replaced with a Sachs lightweight racing jobbie and competition clutch.

Here's the rub though... I would need to sell it for at least £5.5K to make it remotely worthwhile (that's still incurring a substantial loss!). So, the question is - Is there a market at that price for a bomb-proof 170kg V8 that revs to 8250rpm and makes 400+ ponies?

Help me to make a FINAL decision - what's your gut feeling(s) for a value based on the other engines out there?

Cheers!

If I owned such a beast I'd have a hard time parting with it.

I'd suggest posting it on PH and perhaps the GT40 & Lambo forums priced firmly for what you've got in it -- if someone stumps for it fine, if not save it for your Ultima.

A Duratec setup for your Quantum could be gathered up quite cheaply as long as you're patient and shop carefully.

Cheers, Ted

That's what I've realised Ted... picked up the ST150 lump for £400 (06 MY with 20k miles). I've still got to sell the gearbox off it, so that number will come down!

I already have a set of Busa TB's for it. Altiss will make a quality manifold, space the TB's and adapt my current exhaust manifold for a couple of hundred. The only other 'big' purchases to get it going and access 70 more BHP than the Pinto are a Type 9 bellhousing and ECU.

Sell the Pinto for a few hundred and the conversion should cost about the grand mark in real terms!

Also, if I stick with the Duratec and aim for the 200bhp mark, then I don't have to find an expensive gearbox / bellhousing solution, don't have to strengthen the diff mounts, don't have to source wider rear wheels - I can then just concentrate my finances on fine tuning the car!
