Picture editing

I want to be able to draw around an image cut out that section and paste it elsewhere.
I have tried GIMP but the intellegent line leaves a squiggly edge.
Im not after the normal cropping as the images are buildings and I want to be able to superimpose on other pictures. Can anyone help with suggestions of a program free preferably?????

Even Photoshop can leave a wiggly edge after using the lassoo tool for selecting parts of an image. Have you tried using the "Foreground select" feature of GIMP?

I would say that Photoshop is the way forward. It is the dogs conkies when it comes to bitmap image editing. I wouldn't use anything else.

You used to be able to get a version of photoshop called photoshop lite. That came free.

Download a copy of photoplus from the serif software site and use the extract tool in the edit menu. You can control how much of the surrounding area you are trying to leave behind with the thickness of the brush, good if you have a very steady hand as you can work to a pixel width.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

All image editing programs will leave a rough/sqwiggely line unless you feather the edge of the selection.

I've not used gimp before, I'm a photoshop man but there should be a way to feather the selection.

Photoshop is the way to go when you cut set the edge to feather this softenr the edge. I have superimposed sections of people faces in several layers with no noticeable edges Im using CS2

There certainly is. GIMP is a very powerful application that can do an awful lot of what Photoshop can, it's just a bit less intuitive to use (then again I don't find Photoshop very intuitive either!)

you can cut out using

'filter'
'extract'

you go round the objects in minute detail - if thats what you want to do - or go larger if its quicker but best results are smaller

really good results
