I agree with the message you're trying to send, but without causing offence I think you may choose to re-word the title of the group. Maybe something along the lines of 'Give our fallen troops the welcome home they deserve'.

It just seems a little blunt.

I am trying to be blunt. If I do cause offense to anyone I will appologise and reword it but I think a message needs to be sent, it used to be the armed forcers were cared about, now they die and we carry on, there is no mourning for the people loosing their lives to protect us, and the reason for that is because we as a country have stopped caring about being british, stiff upper lip TWADLE, its more like turn the other cheek, I think these men and women deserve alot more respect than they are shown. footballers are paraded as heros buy our armed forces are shunned and treated as lepers, even forbidden to wear their uniforms with pride in some parts of england. thats just not on.

While I appreciate the sentiment I do wonder what you expect. Each of the returning "fallen" will receive a full military funeral if the family wants it. What are you looking for above and beyond this as I'm not sure what else can be done.

I say this as someone who has served in the armed forces during times of conflict and have lost mates to enemy action. I also have done ceremonial funeral guard duty....

I just feel that they do not get enough respect when they return from the country, its not like they are dying in the 100's so it wouldnt hurt the PM to attend each coffin returning personally.

This is obviously something you feel strongly about. I'm guessing from your forum name that you where born in 1982 (?)....The same year I went to war in the Falkland Islands.

The dead in the Falklands war where buried in the Falklands in mass graves, although they where later reburied in separate graves on the Islands. There are memorials on the Islands for the fallen and they are remembered on War Memorials in this country. 86 RN personal died in the conflict (I was in the Navy at the time) out of 258 total UK casualties ( Argentine lost 649). This was in 74 days of conflict.

I have relatives who have died in many conflicts round the world and most are buried in the country that they died in, including Afghanistan in 1930.

All the men and women who sign up and join the armed forces are and should be under no illusion that they may well be called on to fight for their country. Indeed this is why a significant number join. They also understand that they may have to lay down their lives for their country.

To suggest that the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom should attended the arrival of every aircraft carrying the dead back to this country is unrealistic and is actually something most service men wouldn't want (the armed forces, by and large, have a very dim view of the Political Classes). It is much more humbling to see the people of Wooton Bassett honouring the dead in their way than to see any self serving politician trying to turn it into a photo opp.

If you want to do something, do it for the living. Do it for the injured, maimed or disabled or do it for the families of the dead, the dead themselves are past needing a facebook group. You have the right sentiment you just need to focus it in the right direction. Buy a poppy each November and stand when they show the funeral processions on the telly by all means but focus on the living as they are the ones who need your help.

I do buy a poppy each november and I also attend the rememberence day services, you are correct i was born in 82 and do also understand that politicians have a habit of turning things to their own agenda, I am also aware of the military view of the polical system and classes, I raise money for help for heros and the armed forces trust, I just feel that in this day in age there is not the recognition for the sacrifice these men and women make. I am not trying to cheapen this, I started a paper poertition 2 years ago for the same cause and raised 30,000 signatures, nothing happened. indeed i dont think anything will happen i just feel that awareness needs to be raised. I intend no disrespect to yourself or your fellows.

I wasn't for one moment suggesting you where disrespect anyone.

My point is really that we need to look after our service personal when they are alive, when they are dead and gone it is a little late.

As I was saying I do this i raise awareness for help for heros and the armed forces trust, I feel that the reception the fallen recieve is insufficent and a seperate issue, it would not cost alot for "SomeOne" official to be there to greet the fallen, pm, minster of defence etc etc or even a member of the Royal family "for queen and country" after all.
