M5 accident (23rd jan '10)
Has anyone heard about an accident today on the M5... near western super mare?
Two cars and a motorbike... whole front of the bike was missing. No helicopter was sent so I'm guessing he didnt make it. Just wanted to know if
the guy servived or has he turned into another statistic 
southbound was stationary for about an hour (me waiting in it)
I'd love a motorbike but I know what would happen! thats why im going for a BEC.

That's a very pessimistic view. Yes, motorbikes carry more risk than cars
but if you ride with the view that EVERYONE on the road is out to kill you then
you can minimise that risk. I feel for the biker above but life IS dangerous, either
wrap yourself in cotton wool or get out and do it..........
better to burn out than fade away

If you'd 'love a motorbike', then you really need to get on your bike and make something happen.
Yes, there's no question here, you're vulnerable. Any idiot on the road can kill you or put you in a wheelchair, very easily, very
quickly.

You don't have to be on the road to get killed by a car/bike/wagon. Too many people get wiped out simply walking down the path
If you do go the bike route, take no notice of the idiots that will say "you need to fall off at least 3 times before you become a 'real
biker' ". My impression was and is always that the idea was to stay on NOT fall off!
Get one, enjoy it, take your time and you will not look back. (Except before setting off, overtaking etc  ). Get the right training and as has
already been said, treat every other driver/rider like an idiot (forum company excepted ), and you will be fine.

As what has already been said, get a bike and enjoy it, treat every other road user as a threat, self preservation is a priority to but thats the same
for any form of transport, had a bike for years and all ways get of it with a huge smile, great fun..

i do hope the biker is ok. Regarding getting a bike.
i would like a bike but im quite certain i would kill myself or loose my licence. I think that if yous considering getting a bike you have to think
hard about why your getting it. If its to go around on a summer day a nice potter to the coast then do it. If you want to go out and see how fast you
can get around that corner and see what it does flat out then you may not last long! I love speed and pushing my limits of driving. That can be done
slower and safer in a car. And yep there is track days but you need to be minted to do one every weekend!
Thats my 2p's worth, for now!
Track days ARE the best thing since sliced bread, until I get a supercharger that is!

Hi, i just came accross this post also trying to find out abit more about the accident as i am the guy who was on the bike. Thank you for the concern,
im am amzingly lucky and i suvived with little in injury to talk of! everyone has told me how lucky i am, and i feel it. there was loads of helpfull
people at the crash and i was realy taken care of. if anyone comes across this who helped thankyou!

Bike inclined....
If you like bikes, get one, ride carefully, and enjoy, if you delay the decision, your reflexes and health may not be good enough and you would have
missed it.
I rode for a little longer than 10 years, had a few falls my fauld and at one time a bloke didn´t make a stop, but driving defensively, I had time to
pull my right leg from the footpeg so no bad injuries, just a dislocated thumb, two ribs and bruises on my legs and shins (sp?) Bike was totalled as
it was hit on the right, and as it went to the groud it spinned and fell on its left side slipping backwards.
I´ve had had two more bikes, the last one just sold because of back injury not related to Bike.
I enjoyed every minute of the time I had them, even not so enjoyable stuff as getting chrome and shini bits shiny.
in order of appearance,
Suzuki Savage 650 cc
Honda Shadow 600 cc (this was the one trashed)
Suzuki Intruder 800 cc.
Yamaha Virago 1100 cc, the last one.

Glad you´re OK, If you like riding, I would suggest to get on a bike as soon as injuries allow just to confirm if you still want to or it is time to
quit, not doing so may take you away prematurely from a very enjoyable motorsport.

Good to hear that you are ok.
With respect to the other comment regarding statements like you have to fall off 3 times before you're a real biker etc well, if that's
the case I gave up when I became a real biker. You don't hear the expression 4th time lucky do you?
Interestingly (or maybe not!) only one of the incidents involved another vehicle and the other two were at less than the speed limit (diesel/oil on
wet roads). Please don't all shout about driving to the conditions. If we all drove/road as though we were expecting nill grip at any time...

Oh thats wicked news. Your bike was in a bit of a state! Glad to hear your ok.
I can't tell you anymore than you already know about you accident though.
on the subject of bikes, the last time i rode a bike it was a mini moto and i broke my wrist. I just got carried away i think.
And my first experience of bikes was on the back of one with a nutter doing wheelies through traffic. Think thats what put me off.

Good news there and hope you're not too banged up Dom. I've been riding bikes for 40 years now and have developed a pretty good self
preservation instinct. I haven't fallen off since I was a teenager, keep the shiny side up mate.

Excellent news Dom! Good to hear you are OK as it sounded pretty bad. Definitely a good time to get back on a bike if you can for the reason already
stated.
