OT - 9 month Secondmant for same cash + More hasle

so just just put the final touches on an application for a secondmant for 9 month to a project that has a 50/50 chance of failing.

If I get it is going to be a tough 9 months for no extra cach ( maybe a bit of OT but nothing too much ).

But cant explain but the chace thats its going to ( a lot say likley ) to fail really gives me the urge to get in there and test myself

I cant even really justify it myself .

There you go pointles post really but a problem shared and all that. glas of whine and sleep me thinks

Regards

i wouldn't do it myself lol. if there was a tasty bonus in it, if it works then yeah, but if there's no real incentive. i'd just stick with what i'm already doing

oh yeah, and good luck with it too. if you do go for it, i hope it works out

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

Good luck with it, although I must admit to having to look up 'secondmant' as a word I'd never heard before!

I'd probably take a chance on it, especially if your bosses know there is a good chance that it won't come off?

If it doesn't work your no better off, but if you can pull it out of the bag, come promotion / pay rise time your golden!

At the moment I'd love a 50/50 chance of success!
It's not just about the outcome, it's about the support etc you get throughout. Without that even 50/50 becomes a very long shot!

Surely It's about personal development, not just money?
I've done at least half a dozen secondments as I progressed in my company

what guarantee do you have of getting your old job back if it fails?

How much do you enjoy your old job?

Could you stick at your current job for another x years?

How safe / secure is your current job?

How easy would it be to get another job?

Could you survive without a pay packet for how ever long it takes to get another job?

If you can answer those questions you know the answer of what to do!

If it fails will any of the mud stick - also not what you want on your CV if you need a new job shortly after returning. I would discuss these aspects in depth with your bosses and put it conclusions all in writing before taking it on.

However - if it succeeds will do your status a lot of good.

thanks chaps I think I will go for it ( as I may not be successfull ) and could still turn the job down even if it is offered to me.

You have put into type what has been mulling arround my head for the last 2 weeks. I think it me that changed thats caused the confusion 10 years ago, 20 somthing no kids, Shift work, overtime handeled it all and still spent every other weekend spannering for a race outfit.

Now having a 2.5 year old ( and wife wanting more ) my drive is more to being a good dad rather than a slave to work but part of me wants the challenge and excitement that this project would bring.

Thanks
