Urgh... I really dont want another tradesperson in my house... they cost the earth and not one has ever been any good.... Hence why everything gets
done by me now... I know the jobs been done properly with care and attention that way...
Its silly.. I could go to homebase etc and buy a new gas fire.... so why cant I buy a part for one!!
Tegwin I'm right with you on that one, every tradesperson I've used in the last 15 years has made a complete arse of the job:
French doors fitted, they took the window out knocked bricks out, and had made the wrong wood effect doors!
Condservatory, they started building with the wrong bricks, awe they'll be ok, kicked them off the job and did it myself.
Block paving, sagged all over, took them to court and got my money back.
Just replaced my CH boiler with a combi, did it all myself, works perfect, CO detector a foot above it - nothing!!
This sounds very familiar!!!
If you can find a good tradesperson, pay em well and keep using them, as they are a dying breed!!!
I have done most stuff on my house over the last 8 years, as any jobs I have paid for get done wrong.
It was interesting last year, I had my gas boiler professionally serviced, as I'd just checked it over myself for the last 5 years, cleaned out
the combustion chamber, put in a new combustion air fan etc etc.
I knew the 3 way valve was "fubar" but they never picked that up on the service!!!
Again, I'll do it myself thank you very much.
The service guy also ripped the threads out of two of the captive nuts on the combustion chamber cover, never told me, never replaced them, only found
that when I had to replace the combustion air fan again. (glowworm 75's eat fans, constant run one! )

I went to B&Q yesterday and didnt find anything... most odd..
That Jet Lube is only rated to 260C... Wont the pilot area get quite a bit hotter than that?

That expencive Gas seal we use i've just downloaded the Data sheet for and all it says is that its Flashpoint is over 200 Deg C
I shouldn't imagine the inside of the gas fittings.. where its used gets that hot really, the Flame should all be above that so its only a
little conducted heat that gets transfered down from the Pilot.
The fitting has only got hot enough to get pitted because the gas was ignighting in the wrong place.. all were trying to do is stop the Neat gas
escaping and that should cure the problem.
As for the Aluminium pilot tubes, thats what most if not all commercial boilers and cookers etc have.. its only the Domestic stuff where you start
getting stupid custom made stuff that your stuck without having exactly the right part!.
Theres a PTS here.. they should do a suitable sealant, or know where you can get it.
