Sony Bloggie Camera 360 degree views!

I've just ordered one of these via Amazon UK for £20 cheaper than Sony's own shop price.
It records 360 degrees in 1920 X 1080!
I bet you can guess a good use for it!

I'm thinking of mounting on the car so you can see everything on playback

Damn I didn't see the blue one! Could have saved £10!

My only thought is the bit you really are interested in, ie the bit your filming and trying to capture (90 degree's or so), will get lost in the other 270 degrees of image.

Did you see the player? You can change the view on playback.

OTHER uses could be actually appearing in one of my family holiday videos with everyone at the same time.
Looks like rollercoasters are going to be more interesting in Florida this year!

Hmm, the review here kind of confirms my suspicions. Since the sensor is 1080 pixels high and a 360 picture has to fit inside this, the very best resolution around the outside of the picture is going to be quite a bit less than standard def, and in the center there are far fewer pixels so lots of interpolation to ruin the quality.

I'd like one of the 360 lens and appropriate software to fit on my DSLR camera though.

Obviously this has not been converted to the player but what is wrong with the quality of this?
This is a relatively locost camera for £170 and is 1080i. I have a 1080P camera but it cost £400

Well here is a BTCC test of the camera.
Remember that this is not in the 360 degree player so it includes all of the views.

The video only has what look like a few hundred lines (and realistically it can't be much more than that from an HD sensor). It looks ok in a 1:1 ratio, but try view it full screen and the lack of detail is very noticeable. Also as I suspected there is much less detail in the bottom part of the picture than the top, because this is extracted from the inside of the circular video where there are less total pixles.

This is a brilliant idea, but I think it needs far more pixels than an HD sensor can provide to give good quality results.
