recorded delivery?
generally speaking,how long does it take for a recorded delivery envelope to reach around a 100 mile radius, (lancaster to leeds in my case)?
i am having all sorts of trouble taxing my mnr,which is sold and the buyer is collecting this saturday.i sold it with no tax but the buyer has asked
me to tax it so he can drive it home.he has payed me for it and seems a good guy,so am trying to help as much as possible. the only way i can tax it
is to send it to leeds dvla and hope it returns before this weekend! i spoke to them today and they said its my only option as there is a problem on
their database saying my car needs an mot. is their a chance if i send it tomorrow am?

Recorded can be first or second class. If you are really in a rush, you can get special delivery, which will guarantee delivery before a certain time
the following day... Check out the Royal Mail website for details!

Distance not really relevant.
First class used to be next day. Now what with all the computers and automation, it is anything up to five days....to quote the Royal Mail.
Tell them about the bent treacle edges!

Recorded delivery only gives you proof and confirmation of delivery - doesnt guarantee that Leeds DVLA will act upon it.
Best bet to get it taxed is to take everything to the office yourself and queue up if needs be - using the Post Office is relying on them both ways,
not just to get the forms there. DVLA wont send the tax disc out recorded thats for sure.

i spoke to the guy who originally inspected the car and he said its my only option now.as i cant get to dvla before weekend.he said he will asap.

cant you do it online that normally works. or just mot the car.

If you have the guy onboard then send it Special Delivery as it has tracking - in fact i'd go as far as addressing it directly to the guy
himself if he's ok with that. Shouldnt be much dearer than recorded delivery to make damned sure it gets there on Wednesday anyway.

When i taxed my MK for the second year i tried to do it online. But, i was informed that my car required an MOT. I was told the car didn't need
one by SVA because it is classed as a new vehicle and would require MOT in 3 years. I approached DVLA who said it was a matter for VOSA. So i
approached VOSA who said it was a matter for the DVLA????
Turns out no one would admit it was their oversight, so it was easier just to Mot the car than argueing the toss with the powers that be.
For the sake of £40 it probably saved a lot of time.
I hope this doesn't dampen your situation but if your in a similar position it could be a possibility.
