£15 for a video capture card and record straight from TV or Sat box... or hook up the hard drive to a external caddy and most of the stuff you may be able to get off.

Yes - to a DVD recorder, and then rip it to computer. But you need a DVD recorder!

I don't know exactly about Virgin+ but PVR hard disks are not generally the same format as PC disks so you can't just copy the files. There are some downloadable programs which allow you to connect direct to the HD however. I use one such to copy files direct from my Humax PVR.
