ARgghhh !! Royal Mail

I sold an item on eBay and posted it two weeks ago today. It was sent 1st class recorded delivery.

The buyer didnt pay me for the item for 4 days, but I posted it the Morning after they did. I then got emails saying its not here, where is it, etc etc. After a week it had not turned up and they insisited on a refund as it looked like it had been los tin Post. Tracking showed it had no tbeen delievered and was in "progress".

I refunded them, but because I did not have the full amount £70 in my account - could not refund, so had to send £70 (which cost me £2.58 on top .

So I have lost out big time, but because it was not their fault I had to take the hit. Not that they gave me a glowing or any feedback.

Anywayyyy , I check the tracking today because I am going to claim from Royal Mail (£39 out of the £70 ) - and the thing was delivered on the 30th.

So they have had it for over a day and not had the decency to let me know. I have just asked for my money or for them to send the item back to me. I guess they will baulk at the shipping it back to me part and they have since bought another elsewhere. My argument will be that if they have bought another, then they should have refused deovery - it had the senders name on it so would have been delivered back to me.

My slight concern is that as far as ebay are concerned, they have paid me as I did not do a refund, but paid them personally.

Sorry for the rant, but people pee me off Lets see if they a) reply to my email b) do the right thing

That is why I don`t use royal mail for anything of value, you pay much more for a courrier, but at least they give a proverbial when it comes to your item.
Durrring the previous strike a cheque was sent to me - took 20 - 30 weeks to arrive!!! (as aposed to the day it should have taken).

A bit late now but i wouldn't have refunded them while the item was still in progress. I either would have wanted to know for sure that the item was lost or have the item back in my hands before giving a refund, i think we all read stories like this all too often, in reality you have to be a little harder than normal and not accept anything until proven, ie that the parcel was definitely lost.

also would agree with turbodisplay, couriers are more reliable but to be fair to royal mail, the parcel did get there eventually

Sorry, but you've just gone about it the wrong way. If you want an item to arrive guaranteed and fully trackable then send it Special Delivery. Signed For service just means you know when it's got there, and is not traceable for 28 days. And to be fair, it's a very cheap service.

It's your choice to refund somebody the way you did and when you did, you're not obliged to, if you've sent something Signed For, then you have proof of posting and the customer has to wait.

Couriers are fine, but 4 times the price of Signed For.

I really do think you only have your self to blame in this instance.

And I do know what I'm talking about - I run a mail order company!

I've had bad experiences with that. I had to send out an aplication that had to arrive within a week, It was sent on a service where it would be traceable and had to be signed for at the other end and should have arrived the next day.

It took 3 weeks (Fortunatly the person recieving it let me off the deadline) and the tracking thing didn't update because at no point did anyone sign for the package. When it arived it came in with normal post.

Well, they have been in touch and are on Holiday until the 13th. Will try my item when they get back and decide if they want it or not - So now it is try before you buy

Completely agree with all of the above - I defo should not have refunded, but they were bleating about needing to buy a replacement, so I did what I thought was the "nice" thing to do. Lesson learned,,,, Wont be doing that again.....

Hopefully they won't request a refund from paypal too, as you haven't used the proper refunded procedure paypal will assume you still have their money!
