am I insured?
got house insurance renewal - left it as I thogh it was self renewing like the prevous tiem ( have changed companies).
got a reminder to pay.
So from 16 April 2010 (renewal date), have I been insured? And if I had made a claim in that time, would they have piad?
In case of claim, would they have asked me to pay renewal prior to paying up?
Curious to know as I am about to pay but if I was not covered, then I don't want it back dated.
I will ask these question first.

Chances are it's been cancelled although it depends on the company - if you deal with an independent broker they may be able to reinstate the
policy as though there was no gap. If it's an Internet company or national company that doesn't care about customer service it may be more
difficult.
Just take out a policy ASAP, either with the old company or a new one. As long as you don't want to claim for the uninsured period then
it's not too much of a problem.
If you pay for the full year, you will have been covered for the full year. If they only cover you from now, the policy will cease in 12 months'
time.
Any insurer will want the premium to be paid before paying out a claim.

If your policy has expired you are not insured, and I would not expect the insurance company to just let you pay the premium retrospectively - unless
its a very small amount and they do it for good will. If they did, you could get a couple of weeks 'free' every year - just dont bother to
renew until acouple of weeks after the end of one policy, if you need to claim phone up and get it done retrospectively, if not just start a new
policy... It wouldnt be good business for them, as you may well have chosen not to bother, or to go elsewhere (if you see it from their point of
view).

for other resasons, called them aqnd policy is still running but not paid for.
the other reason being that RBS are doing a match like for like house insurance/contents deal - same features but £ 25 less and they will pay £ 25
cancellation chage.
so off to read the details this evening and most likley be changing other; should be at least £ 15 better off.
and current policy will need to be paid pro-rata.
