Obama the new De Gaulle ?
70 years ago (18th June 1940) today a very famous speech was made that the BBC have not mentioned it wasn't the one made by De Gaulle but was
the one made earlier in the day be Winston Churchill
Quote
“ ....However matters may go in France or with the French Government or with another French Government, we in this island and in the British Empire
will never lose our sense of comradeship with the French people. If we are now called upon to endure what they have suffered we shall emulate their
courage, and if final victory rewards our toils they shall share the gains, aye. And freedom shall be restored to all. We abate nothing of our just
demands—Czechs, Poles, Norwegians, Dutch, Belgians, all who have joined their causes to our own shall be restored.
What General Weygand has called the Battle of France is over. I expect that the Battle of Britain is about to begin. Upon this battle depends the
survival of Christian civilisation. Upon it depends our own British life, and the long continuity of our institutions and our Empire. The whole fury
and might of the enemy must very soon be turned on us. Hitler knows that he will have to break us in this island or lose the war. If we can stand up
to him, all Europe may be freed and the life of the world may move forward into broad, sunlit uplands.
But if we fail, then the whole world, including the United States, including all that we have known and cared for, will sink into the abyss of a new
dark age made more sinister, and perhaps more protracted, by the lights of perverted science. Let us therefore brace ourselves to our duties, and so
bear ourselves, that if the British Empire and its Commonwealth last for a thousand years, men will still say, This was their finest hour.
”
End quote
All day the BBC have been pouring our the De Gaulle speech agitprop without a single mention of the Churchill speech. Lets not forget De Gaulle
did everything in is power to slight his British, Commonwealth and the USA allies after his arrival in London and continued to do so into the 1960s
with his rabble rousing speech in Quebec and his veto of the UK's entry in the the what was then the European Common Market.
Obama is from the American version of the same mould one of his first actions on entering the oval office was to have the bust of Churchill not only
removed but sent back to the UK.
The current witch hunt against BP makes the Salem Witch Trials look like a kindergarten nativity play. The truth is the US which created the current
worldwide financial crisis wants to crucify any no-american CEO of any large corporation for any mistake they make in the US, look what they did to
the Toyota Chairman.
In Afganistan Obama is obviously copying the French strategy used so successfully in WW1 & WW2 that is keep on fighting until the last
British ( and other allied) soldier falls.

He's probably still 'pissed' that we burnt the white house down
Normal is getting dressed in clothes that you buy for work and driving through traffic in a
car that you are still paying for - in order to get to the job you need to pay for the clothes
and the car, and the house you leave vacant all day so you can afford to live in it.

Sending the Churchill bust back is a bit rude, is it true?

Obama has a chip on his shoulder over what apparently happened to his granddaddy in Kenya after the UK left (and was done by the Mau Mau (who I
thought were native Africans)).
What he seems to forget is his actions are identical, just reversal of colour and he's also forgotten what the Germans and Japs got up to during
WW 1 & 2.
Ah, the truth - how well did the Americans do after the war; where did all the Nazi research (and researchers) end up, what happened to the germans
rocket scientists.
I shouldn't be surprised if Obama didn't send black ops to blow up the well himself, his chip appears that large!

...and what should our response be?
Withdraw troops from Afghanistan and Iraq?
Put Churchill on a plinth directly outside the entrance to the US Embassy?
Invade and retake our colonies?
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

Just get BP to threaten to Cancel its US shares, that should shut them up.
Anyone else noticed that this whole event benefits the middle east, who get blamed for pretty much everything, yet noone has mentioned them? I'm
not saying its anything to do with the middle east, just that they're usually front in line for being blamed.
Seems to be good news for Israel though, everyone seems to have forgotten what happened 3 weeks ago.

[Yorkshire] Oh Yes![/Yorkshire]
We could also mention Union Carbide - Bopal a bit more. 23 years on and they haven't cleaned up their mess.
We could mention Haliburton a bit more. The US company is deeply involved with this oil spill (pun intented)
Should we get deeper involved, the British Indian Ocean Territories really should be emptied and given back to their occupants. RAF Filingdales
should be turned back into national park. Iran and Afghanisan was never our problem. Perhaps we should leave the Americans to their own wars.
There's a very unequal extradition treaty that should be renegotiated and they ruined The Pink Panther by remaking it with Steve Martin.

look up what is happening in the nigerian delta.
The double standards make me sick.
It is the people wanting cheap fuel that push companies profit margins into cutting back - and those people include the Yanks. When it is happening on
the other side of the world they turn a blind eye, but when it is happening on their doorstep they make a song and dance.
My favourite quote of a particularly ill informed american was at a gathering in a small town suffering from the oil spill. In a town hall meeting she
put her hand up and said, "the English Queen should appologise!"....
yeah... by that logic all fat americans should take legal action against the Scottish Assembly, McDonalds certainly sounds like it is owned by our
Kilt wearing friends...

I wouldn't read too much into Obama. The ignorance of the rest of the world can be extended to many many places besides the US. I have family
there, I've lived there, and I chose to just be Canadian after 6 months of being in California. I have also spent a lot of time in Europe and
the UK specifically. Very few people have given a half second thought to my country and that is just the way it is. We are not beavers and igloos, but
if people think that, this just means they have more important things on their mind, like trying to get a decent job, or how to get in to the
dentist.
Having said all that, the US is quite happy it was BP who failed the polluted region, and not a US company. Of course, the UK is going to be a
scapegoat. Americans are perfect; it's dogma to them. But Obama is easily the best of a very bad lot of US political hopefuls.
