Ipod car kit?

Got an Ipod Touch recently, would like to use it in the car....other than buying an Ipod compatible head unit (which i don't think i can in my mondeo...), I am thinking of getting a transmitter/holder type thingy...only i had one a couple of years ago for an MP3 player and seem to remember it was a pain in the arse retuning it a lot on long journeys...

Any recommendations?

Cheers, Rich.

I had a transmitter type affair, but I also had the same issues ref having to retune
Since got a Dension kit that uses the radios aerial as the input to the radio so audio not as good as a head unit with a line in..but its a million times better than the transmitter (iTrip?) I was using ...not had to retune, and sound quality is as good a local FM radio station to my ears

The kit I got was 2nd hand and not particularly expensive (eBay...IIRC was about £25)
Easy to wire in (only wires are power, aerial and docking station)
got one of those "Dashmount" brackets (designed for the car for hands free kits etc and usually involve not having to screw anything into the dash etc) and bolted the docking station to it

Well happy with our setup...simple enough that Mrs Cog can understand it etc

Regards
Rob

So's mine, it's right at the back, on the right of the box. You're looking for a headphone socket.

Anyone know if my 2006 Focus Ghia is likely to have a socket too? The radio has an Aux button...

Does it not have a 3,5mm out you can use a plain 3.5 M-M lead with?

Or do you get aditional functionality (skip track etc) down the wire.

iPod/iPhone have a larger hole so you need a reducer for normal 3.5mm stuff

It used to be the other way round, the iPod/phone had a smaller opening which meant a normal 3.5mm jack wouldn't fit properly.
They've redesigned it now (at least from the 3GS) to take a standard 3.5mm connection.

:edit
And you can modify a standard 3.5mm jack cable to fit, just trim the sheath on the end...

Incidentally while we're on this, my socket's getting a bit loose and the sound can go off when I open the glovebox/go over a speedbump. It's not really bad but what could I do? I'm thinking soldering the cable into the socket or something similar...

Is it the socket or break in the cable?

I'd check it with another cable, but it could be that the socket needs replacing....

Hmm - no sign of a socket on my Focus... never mind, I can't be bothered with wiring one in.
