self levelling compound

i've gotta level the floor in the kitchen prior to tilling it. i've got roughly 7.75sqm to cover, with a drop at one end of 8mm where a concrete plinth has been set for the fridge.

after a look at a couple of posts on a "tilers forum" something made by BAL seems to be the consensus.

Bal Acrybase will set @ 8mm but needs powder and liquid, which comes to about £160! other brands need the addition of granite chips over about 6mm.

anyone know more about this?

I'm not sure I'm reading this right, but is there a rectangle of lower floor where the concrete pad is? and the rest of the floor is "generally" level, you just want it dead flat before tiling?

I'm not too sure why you have a concrete pad for the fridge but could you put some 6mm ply in first, then level over it?

If you are bringing up the whole floor a bit, you may be better off plying the lot?

Be aware though that self levelling compound isn't truly self levelling, it'll still need some trowel work and a sand to get dead flat (not that you'll mind as you are tiling over). Worth noting if you are laying vinyl.

i usa sika self levelling as thats what my local builders yard stocks. they do normal and a one part latex one of which you can add sharp sand to which lets you put it down thicker. not sure how thick it will go to but will definatly do your 8mm.

quick search found THIS which will go upto 25mm

Avoid ply, the tiles will come loose after a while at this thickness.

I used self leveling, its expensive stuff so covered the floor with smashed broken tiles to reduce the cost and worked the air bubbles out as recommended by the supplier.
