Can't say I'm an old plane enthusiast or anything (at all), but that site is awesome! Very interesting for anyone interested in mechanical
things (if you're not, what are you doing here??)

I spent about 10 years flying old planes for a living. New ones are a lot better, and safer. There is no romance in flying around in shite.

I fancy learning to fly.. and maybe building a Tiger Moth... is it possible to home construct one?
Just need to win the lottery and buy a farm

Guy along the road from me, extended out from his single garage with a timber frame & and sheeting, Built a small aircraft.
I prefer mine to have two engines , someone said earlier its no fun flying round in shite.
He is absolutely right...They are great till the engine stops on the climb out

I've also been on the Duxford one - the emergency exit amused/worried me - a circle in the fabric cabin roof with "Cut here" written
on it!
Lovely plane though...

In those days all aircraft would have an axe, if you landed hard and the doors wouldnt open - the thin skins could be chopped away.
I once got chatting with an old boy who flew in Lancasters, he was a gunner, one of his actions during ditching drills in the sea was to chop the
aircraft floor out before they crashed.
He never need his axe....
