Long Shot - Anybody here know about image licensing?
A company we dealt with many years ago have used a load of our copyright images on a Teddy calendar they produced for 2010. They didn't ask
permission and I only realised it when a customer showed me the caledar a few weeks ago.
So the question is, what can I expect to get from they for unlicensed use of our images? They have already offered £50 an image, but I've no
idea if this is reasonable or not.
Sensible thoughts from anybody in the know?

We have had this issue before and fines can be very big.
A quick search about Getty Images:
Have a look

I personally charge around £250 per image for full copyright release, but it depends on your normal licencing argeements
Copyright infringement can lead to big fines as said above

the price is basically whatever you wnat from it. if you own the copyright, they should have asked your permission first, but if they did ask first,
you could have either said yeah you can use them, and you don't want any money, or yes, but you want £infinity, or anywhere in between. if
you're happy with £50 each, then you can accept, or say no and see if they'll up the offer. you could take them to court, but is it worth
that much hassle?

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

Cheers chaps, they are only a small company and it seemed like a genuine mistake on their part, so I think £600 seems ok - they are only for one off
use. I asked someone at the British Library and they reckonned that was about right too.

laugh at there £50 now
how many calenders were produced?
take your £50 and times it by the number of calenders if you like, really as the calenders are printed and sold you can refuse to hand over copyright
and licence the image on a per print basis if you like.
the last time i seen something similar to this was with a bathroom showroom catalouge, there bill was £16,000 for 3 images used.

I have reason to buy images from image houses quite a lot and it never ceases to amaze me the cost of some images. Personally I don't how
people like Getty sleep at night. I use istockphoto.com whenever possible.
I think the above post is right, charge what feels right to you. What would you pay for those images.
