Any TV experts? (ie signals, aerials, wireless bits n bobs)
Moving house next weekend. New house has sky dish up but no TV aerial (blew down, never replaced). We dont have Sky subscription - happy with
freeview. Just wondering what our best options are. last owners just had one sky box feeding the whole house. I like the idea of being able to watch
different programs in different rooms though.
The obvious solution is get Sky. The current sky box is in a bedroom and i think transmits around house with a magic eye type thing. Do these run
through the co-ax cable? If Sky is broadcast around the house like that does it mean any TV connected to the co-ax sockets can see whatever the sky
box is playing? I guess this means you have to be careful if you are watching a horror film etc as the kids could also be watching it in their rooms -
not good.
I know i could just put an aerial up, will probs sort it out one weekend. Are all aerials basically the same? Ive put a high gain one up before from
B&Q and installed a booster / splitter. Seemed to work well. I might try and rig one in loft until i can get big ladder (and brave legs!). What
are the best signal boosters / wireless signal transmitters? (its a big house, apparently the magic eye takes a while to work the sky box from the
living room)
How does freesat work? Can i use the existing sky dish and just buy a freesat box? i assume if you want to watch different programs on different
TV's you need more than one freesat decoder box (sounds pricey).
I havent looked into multi room stuff much before, not sure where to start. i dont want to buy something from std diy shop to find it doesnt work very
well. Thanks in advance for your ideas.

media centre or a quad lmb and a few freeview boxes.
we have sky subscription in the living room with a magic eye to our bedroom so when we in bed we can watch proper sky.
my daughter has freeview channels using our old sky box in her room.
cinema room has satalitte freeview which is all freeview channels.
then divx player in all rooms and network media centre to play off media centre pc in bedrooms and cinema rooms.
ps3 plays the media in the livingroom eg divx films.
hope that helps show what can be done.

Hi Darren,
You can get a freesky box for less money than putting up a new digital aerial - just plug it in to the sky dish and as long as the dish hasn't
moved from the sky satellite it should work just fine.
You can even get freesky Hard drive recorders like sky plus if you have 2 dish leads and twin LNB
I run tv's in 3 rooms with 1 dish - you get mulitple output LNB's and run the cables round the house.

Thanks for fast replies.
Is freesky a certain type of box or simply a std skybox that you use to just get the free channels (ie no need to subscribe or have a card etc in the
box)? Sounds like a easy solution to at least be able to watch something. I assume its just a simple case of getting on ebay (or similar) and buying
an old box off someone.

I can't get Freeview here (supposed to be 2012...). Used to have a Sky subscription them when the kids grew out of Disney etc. I just used it as
a Sky freesat box. The sky box lasted for over 10 years (!!) then gave up the ghost, so I've now got a Humax Foxsat HD - freesat (not exactly
the same channels as the free Sky ones) and Hi Def on the relevant channels. I just had to unscrew the cable fro the sky box and screq it into the new
box.
I've got an aerial on the roof for normal TV, then pipe the output from the Humax back up a cable to a splitter in the loft. That has feeds to
various different rooms in the house. I set a certain channel on the individual TVs so we can watch whatever's on the Humax. Can't watch a
different programme but that's not a big issue for us.

Cheers Mark. The one in that link are certainly far cheaper than i saw at the weekend (less than half).
Before you posted the link i did some googling and saw this

Also looks like a cheap option - obviously an old sky box that has been reprogrammed.

I think I'd go for the only slightly more expensive proper freesat box myself 
Also probably easier to keep up to date with new channels etc and I'm not convinced that you get all the free channels that are available with
the freesat box.

And Darren now your over 65 years old you can get freesat for £20 of the government  part of the change over to digital tv
