theres only a certain period of time in which you can delete. i forget how long though. couple of days maybe. reason was because of people deleting posts, and threads then not making much sense to anyone search for info a few months later. same reason you can't edit posts after a few days

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

I just thought it would clean the site up a bit

i think you should be able to delete your own post's if you want

Chris changed it after CalvinX threw his toys out of the pram..

That was a long time ago

it just seems daft to leave stuff on that means nothing like bits for sale after they have been sold

Its unfortunately not that simple.

What if you have something for sale with some pictures, sell it, someone else posts a link saying "i'd like one of these" or "how do you install one of these" etc and links to your post.

You then delete your post and we've got a potentially useful thread for future reference ruined as we've no idea what the thing looks like etc.

Maintaining referential integrity is a complete ball ache to code, not allowing deletes is a simple solution. If Chris is happy with the size of the database then lets not worry about it.

Can't you just use the edit function to add "now sold" to the title or add a new reply to say the same?

been working today down a road which is begging a thrashing but is usually cluttered with people driving slowly. And to make it worse, ive got a timid passenger who doesnt like any overtaking even when theres a mile straight to do it on!
