I have decided I want to buy a mig welder to help with my build. I have found this on ebay and its not to far away. Does it look any good for the

Yeah looks good and would be just fine for doing a chassis etc
You should however replace that rubbish mask with an auto tinting one, otherwise you'll soon enough learn about welding flash and just how
painful it really is...
Turbo (just a cooling fan) ones are better for longer run times before needing a pause to cool back down
Do always turn of the valve on the gas bottle once finished or it will all vanish in a few days or less
It's best to have a look over the machine for wear and tear. Check for frayed cables, try pressing the trigger at a very low wire speed and see
when it doesn't move, if that is at quite a high number say about 3 and it's still not moving or only moves when you wave the hand set
about then the feed tube for the wire could be very worn. I have a spiral metal one on mine for the full length. Most have metal only at the top in
the handset with plastic for the rest, this wears quite bad and makes the feed very erratic
Since the guy has done a fair bit of welding, just ask for a demonstration of a good weld or too, and listen to the machine, how smooth is the wire
speed motor running. Off course you will have to bring a gas bottle with a regulator but you had to get that anyway.

View over on mig-welding is it's Chinese and inferior to a Clarke, but that one is a very good price. Why's he getting rid after
18months? Upgrading?

Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

I had a bust Siegen from Zilspeed - turned out the control transformer on the PCB was fried. I swapped it for an off board trafo with flying leads.
The actual iron (ie the welding transformers) looked pretty good and chunky. Worked fine after that and wasn't too bad to use but as I'd
acquired a Cebora Pocket Turbo 130 (very good and also sold rebranded by Snap On) I punted it to the artist formerly know as Dave1888.
