Forum skulduggery

car forum rant.

on another forum i am a member of i spotted an item for sale, and offered the seller his asking price.
he's in basingstoke i;'m in nottingham but luckily travel about a bit for work.
over the past two days we have agreed that i'll pick parts up thursday afternoon at 2pm.

then today i get a message to say someone more local wanted them quickly so he's sold them to him.
what makes it even worse is that the seller is a moderator on the forum.

by contrast anything i've bought sold on here has been pretty trouble free.
can believe a mod would do that.

sorry rant over.

paul

Not nice.....
However, I will admit to understanding the seller. Sort of.
Recently had a bodytub (spitfire) for sale. Chap travels 50 miles to see it, but I also knew a local club member was vaguely interested. The bloke turns up, and I recognised him as a part-time trader. But he then obviously likes what he sees (you can just tell) but instead of handing over the readies decides he has to discuss it with his son back home. ie go away, expect me to sweat, then make a low offer. As he leaves to discuss with son, I called up the local chap. Who realising there was a competitor, hotfooted over. Within 10 mins of him arriving I had readies in my back pocket. Plus I know he actually needed the bodytub.

Moral, unless the seller knows you, don't expect them to hang on to the goods until they are paid for. And always phone before travelling. I have been caught out, even after travelling a distance :mad

Oh, and the "trader" was ever so slightly miffed. Thought we had agreed a deal. Yeah, right we had. He would have doubled his money I reckon. Maybe he was just too greedy.:

Most folk on this site seem to work on a very fair first come, first served basis - I've bought / sold loads of bits here and never had any real issues yet...

just another reason to spend more time on here
