don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

Prices are high at the minute I heard a figure of £150 a ton for scrap cars the other day, alloys are worth very good money as are cats.

the alloys must weigh over 10kgs each. they are wide 16" wheels.
but i probably only have about 80kgs of steel!
is it worth a trip to the scrappys?

its not worth going down just for steel unless its a pickup full, but the alloys will bag you £20odd quid so you may as well take the steel too.

There are good merchants and bad. Place i go in leeds is massive and professional, no haggling on price. One place i went to up north, was just a shit hole with a few pikeys in it. Wouldnt even pay for steel, just 'take it off your hands for nowt'

Daniel you could ring Mountelm in Carlisle and ask for a second opinion- they deal in all sorts including old car batteries- got £8 for 2 the other week, in the past we have just taken them to the dump and handed over to the sneering operatives!

Yes I'd second that. They gave me 128 quid for one of my Mk 1 Mondeos then after weighing and paying they let me take off all sorts of bits eg. Both front seats, belts and even the wheel nuts and battery.
