high speed trains in france?
anyone used the high speed rail to travel to southern france? was just wondering what it was like and if the timetables etc are accurate?
i was browsing on the bonjour la france time table and the times seem to be a bit strange depending on where your going. eg some trains get from
london st pancras to lille in about 1 1/2 hours and some take around 2 1/2 hours. from london to toulon via lille around 9 hours but london to
marseille around 4 1/2 with the second part of the journey (lille to marseille) in 1 1/2 hours. surely the train cant travel the full length of france
in 1 1/2 hours? answers on a postcard please!

France is an hour ahead, perhaps you'd save an hour that way

Definitely can't get from Lille to Marseilles in 1.5 hours.
I just looked on
sncf.fr for tomorrow leaving Lille at
about 10:00 and it reckons a bit under 5 hours for services without changes, a bit over 5 hours via Paris or Lyons

Drive it's more fun. We once went from Morecambe to Le Mans in under 24 Heures in a 1000 Metro. .

They don't run at that speed on regular services, but they are capable of it. IIRC they normally run up to about 200mph.

Just for fun. The highest speed recorded on a TGV is just under 575 kph
That's nearly 360 mph
If you're into fast things then you need to try it at least once. It only seems fast when you pass by something close up.
Bridges are the best. You don't see them. There's just a flash and a bang as you go by.......
