So what are the chances of this happening?
Last week my wife and I were on holiday in Copenhagen.
We decided to walk along the river to see the Little Mermaid, and as we were walking along the quayside we saw a very nice sailing ship from
Colchester (close to where we live). This was surprising, as it's a very long journey across the North Sea.
As we were talking about it, a woman passed by and said to my wife "fancy a trip home on that?". After a few more words she looked at my
wife and said "Ann? And David? - we used to be your next door neighbours in Chelmsford!"
That was over 25 years ago.
We were in Copenhagen for 5 days, they were on a 1 day visit from a cruise ship...
What are the odds of that happening?!

I found the prices scary - 25% VAT doesn't help. A pint (well, 500ml) of beer was 80 - 100 DKK, according to where you are. That's over
£8 - £10 a pint. Food's not cheap either.
The girls are attractive though...
Spoke to my wife about them (it's safer than staring at them with my mouth wide open!) - we came to the conclusion that we hardly saw an
overweight girl (maybe 1 in 100) and all the rest wore comfortable clothes that suited them, rather than being fashion slaves who wear stuff that
plainly doesn't look good. Not all girls were beautiful (although a lot were) but nearly all looked attractive because they they were relaxed
about who they were.
My wife reckoned that many of the men looked good too... of course, I cannot comment on that!

When I was a university student I took a summer out to travel to the States to work on a kids summer camp with an organisation called BUNAC (British
University North American Camps).
I entered the 'I don't care what camp I get sent to lottery' and duly accepted my place.
I was sent to a camp in the North East USA, my destination airport was JFK.
The camp workers came in thick and fast over a 5 day period and all had one evening to acclimatise in NYC before being shipped out to their camps the
next day.
Bunac had block booked halls of residence in Colombia university in NYC for a week. There were 4 university accommodation towers with a good 8 floors
in each.
I went for a shower in one of the 6 communal bathrooms on each floor and bumped into a guy I was at school with who was enroute to his camp too!
So we were at school together, we both elected to do the BUNAC thing, we both ended up in the NE USA, we both flew into JFK the same day out of 5, we
both ended up in the same one of 4 accommodation towers, on the same floor out of at least 8, and in the same bathroom of 6...........at the same
time!!!!
I nearly shat myself when he said "Eh up Col hows things?!"

One of my best mates went on honeymoon to St Lucia - picked the perfect hotel and duly headed off to enjoy 2 weeks of wedding bliss. Little did he
know, one of our other friends had booked a last minute holiday, and didn't have a clue that he had snapped up a room in the hotel next door...
Needless to say, the new wife was not amused when they discovered they were sharing the beach with them, let alone when the lads decided to ditch the
girls, and enjoy some man time!

I did notice the women in Copenhagen, but more so across the border in Sweden -not all stunning blonds but a healthy mix of dark haired ladies.
Copenhagen - dockside bar, homemade burger, & fries (jockeys to me) with a salad, and 2 x Heinekens was 70 euro - I didnt drink much
While on the conversation of drink, in the UK every shop on every corner sells cheap drink. In Helsingborg , Sweden - biggish sea port, plenty shops,
big urban sprawl, We could only fine one shop that sold drink in the evening.
There in lies a big message imho

Finland is very similar - although the price of drink has come down over the last few years.

You could say the same about junk food outlets - I think I saw 1 Macdonalds in Copenhagen, none at all in Malmo (over the border in Sweden). Very few
other junk food chains to be seen. Also, I didn't see much in the way of convenience foods such as sliced white bread (plastic bread), but a
lot of proper bakeries.
We ate lunch in a cafe in a large department store in Malmo - reasonably cheap, and extremely high quality. It was quite amusing when we asked for a
translation of the day's menu (choice of 2 dishes) - she said it was "fish" or "cow".

It's a small world at times, how many flights leave the UK to China daily ?
Around 6 years ago I found myself on the same flight as another forum member on here, what where the chances of that ?

Best coffee shop Ive ever been in was in Malmo - And the dearest, smell was fantastic....
Did you get to the Twisted Torso building ?
No fast food outlets in Helsingborg, bars to drink and eat, apart from that very quiet, no dross wandering about in the evenings, we have it all in
the UK. Fantastic....

I was asked to pack a bag and dash off to the Falklands. The company I work for here in the UK also manage the services at Mount Pleasant and they had
a few engines in the two power stations fail. They wanted someone from off-camp to look through the service logs and oversee the rebuilds. 8500 miles
later and the bloke who met me off the plane was a guy who used to live in the same village as me!

the foods nothing to special when your out and about, but found a few places doing decent home cooked stuff (suits me better than michelin star stuff
anyway)
everything is cheap and the good vodka is best I've ever found - a decent bottle (0.5l) costs about £6 or £7 (same bottle over here is about
double )

Can beat that one, standing outside the Sydney Opera House with a lady friend and an ex-girlfriend walks up and says 'Hi', she's
heard my laugh from 50m away!! An hour later I'm stood in a flat with 3 mates from my old village in Sussex who were travelling with her!
If you're not living life on the edge you're taking up too much room.

As Steven Wright says, "It's a small world, but I wouldn't want to paint it."
My last job in London involved meeting clients at their place of work. I had an appointment at Nomura with one of the traders.
Whilst chatting, he enquired about my accent, (Burnley). Turns out that the previous summer he'd towed a guy's broken-down car plus
occupants back from mid-France to Burnley. The guy was my lifelong (45yrs) pal's brother-in-law.

The funniest story was from a neighbour in my village... he used to be an armourer in the RAF and travelled all over the world.
He was abroad somewhere like Cyprus 10 years ago and spotted someone coming towards him that he recognised. Had a "you were in the RAF
weren't you?" conversation, and spoke for some time trying to work out where they had met. After going through a long list of postings
they realised that they could never have met, and were actually total strangers!
